Race 5

PORT DOUGLAS has cracked pole position and has posted two solid last runs over seven furlongs, the latest when winning by a short-head. He raced just behind the leaders that day before striking the front at the 200M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He has his peak run after returning from a 13-week rest and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

LOOSE LOVE is seldom far off the action and over raced, but stayed on well when finishing second last time out over a mile, just two and a half lengths back from the winner. He gets cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, jumping from draw five.

NOT TOO BAD followed up his penultimate run victory over 1700M with a fourth-place finish next time out when stepping up to nine furlongs, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be eased at the 1200M mark in that contest. The gelding gets the blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and has a handy draw three. In addition, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 6

WASHINGTON TOWERS has finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1100M, just a neck back from the winner. He hit the front at the 200M pole but hung out in the home straight to be collared on the line. The gelding has a useful draw two and looks to be the one to side with here.

DUBBO WANDERER has consistent formlines to his name and raced four wide without cover, but still battled all the way down to the line to finish fourth last time out over five furlongs, just under two lengths off the victor. He is sure to put his pole position to good use.

CAREER CHANGE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys. She jumped awkwardly but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then stayed on well over the closing stages to claim a half-length victory in her latest outing over five furlongs, this despite hanging in down the home straight. She will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

Race 7

ITA is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when fourth over 1500M, just a length behind the winner. She raced three wide without cover that day and was hampered at the 200M mark before making good late progress over the latter stages. She does face a wide gate twelve, but she should be doing her best work late.

MAYFAIR SPIRIT on the other hand has pulled pole position and showed marked improvement when finishing fourth last time out over nine furlongs, 1.3L off the victor. He stayed on well that day and if he is able to confirm that last effort, he should be right up there when they hit the line. The gelding will also be having his peak run after returning from a 17-week absence.

MARSABIT had to be held up at the top of the home straight before finishing off his race well to end up in second spot last time out over ten furlongs, 4.3L behind the winner. He will have to overcome a wide gate thirteen, but given his style of racing, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

Race 8

The day’s best bet, WATCH ME RUMBLE is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1300M and a mile when finishing fifth last time out over seven furlongs, beaten just over two and a half lengths, but she did have to check at the 100M pole and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She will have to deal with a wide gate eleven, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

RYLAN’S PICK’S last four runs have yielded two seconds and two wins, the latest victory coming over five furlongs by a half-length, notwithstanding being bumped at the start. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

HOW’S IT KEV had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over seven furlongs, albeit by just 0.8L. He raced three wide without cover in that event, but delivered a powerful finish to record his third career win. The gelding has a cozy draw four and will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
