CHOC receives R9000 after Hollywoodbets Dolphins Match

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins dedicated their 24 January match against the bizhub Highveld Lions to a worthy cause – the Childhood Cancer Foundation SA- KZN region. Supporters were encouraged to wear blue to the stadium to raise awareness about this cause. On top of that, Hollywoodbets pledged to donate R250 to the organisation for every boundary hit during the match.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins were up to the challenge hitting 22 boundaries in total while the Lions racked up a respectable 14. CHOC will therefore receive R9 000 as a result of this exciting match that ended in favour of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins.

CHOC Regional Manager Agie Govender is grateful for these much-needed funds that supports a larger budget.

“We have specifically earmarked this money for transport costs for children with cancer. There are two treatment facilities for provincial patients who are able to receive cancer treatment. These facilities are mostly accessed by the poorest of the poor. However because treatment takes up to 5 years many children default from treatment because families are unable to cover the transport costs. Our Social Worker assesses patients who have severe financial constraints and funds are allocated to cover transport costs, and this will ensure that children do not default from treatment. Between fifteen to twenty families will benefit from this generous donation weekly.”

“We are deeply honoured by the fact that Hollywoodbets chose to support us again. In 2016 Hollywoodbets chose to support our CHOC House and volunteer programme in Pietermaritzburg. This ongoing partnership is indeed a testament that large companies play a vital role in community upliftment,” said Govender.

Devin Heffer, Media & Communications Executive at Hollywoodbets, is proud of the players for putting on such a good show yesterday. “Wow! What a match! With 36 boundaries hit on the night there was plenty of action for the DolFans and it secured a sizeable donation for CHOC. At Hollywoodbets we believe in making a positive impact on our community, and it’s always an honour to partner with our team, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins, when it comes to doing good work that will change others’ lives for the better,” he said.

This donation was made just in time for the upcoming International Childhood Cancer Day on the 15th of February 2018.
