Dolphins Made to Work Hard on Day Two at Newlands

Hollywoodbets Dolphins - Cricket
After an early strike, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins had to wait until late on Tuesday for success as they fought to try wrestle back the momentum that the WSB Cape Cobras had arrested on day two of their 4-Day Franchise Series Clash at Newlands.

It was a tricky day with a number of rain delays in the first half of day two, however after the Dolphins took the wicket of Kyle Verrynne early, the vast majority of the day belonged to the home side.

Pieter Malan and Vernon Philander batted for the biggest portion of the day and put on a partnership of 228 runs for the sixth wicket.

Both players went to centuries with Philander eventually falling for 104. He was caught by Cody Chetty off the bowling of Kerwin Mungroo.

When Philander fell, the Cobras had erased the deficit and added 68 runs which put them in a strong position going into the final half an hour.

Mungroo then made another breakthrough when Dane Piedt was caught by wicket-keeper Dane Vilas for four.

In the witching hour of the second day, Okuhle Cele dismissed the set Malan for 153, caught by Keshav Maharaj.

The Cobras went into stumps on 317/8 with a lead of 92 runs going into the third day of the encounter.

Cele joined Rob Frylinck with three wickets, finishing the day with figures of 3/49 and Mungroo ended with two wickets of his own.
