Dolphins toil on day one in Bloem

Senuran Muthusamy - Hollywoodbets Dolphins - Sunfoil Series - Bowling - Cricket

The opening day of the second round of Sunfoil Series action saw the Hollywoodbets Dolphins work hard for their wickets against the VKB Knights at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Thursday.

The defending champion Knights won the toss and elected to bat first, however it was the visitors who had the early smiles when Kerwin Mungroo picked up the wicket of Grant Mokoena for a duck in the second over.

From then on the morning belonged to the hosts as Luthando Mnyanda (74) provided the perfect foil for the belligerent Theunis de Bruyn.

The pair put on 198 for the second wicket in 41.3 overs before Mnyanda fell off the bowling of captain Keshav Maharaj.

De Bruyn continued to be attacking as he put the Dolphins bowlers to the sword and looked set for a double century before he adjudged LBW off Senuran Muthusamy for 190 from 225 balls.

At that stage the Knights were 314/3 in the 77th over.

The Dolphins fought back bravely in the final session on the day as they picked up the wickets of Pite van Biljoen for 40 and Diego Rosier for 10.

A blitz from Patrick Kruger right at the death of the day where he scored 26 off just six deliveries across two overs catapulted the Knights to 397/5.

Kruger fell victim to Muthusamy in the twilight of day one for 35 but Shadley van Schalkwyk and Rudi Second steered the Knights to 400/6 at the close of play.

Keshav Maharaj and Muthusamy both picked up two wickets while Mungroo and Frylinck both grabbed one wicket each.
