The Proteas have named their 15-man squad for the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup. The showpiece co,petition will take place in Australia with the Qualifiers getting underway on 16 October and the tournament proper commencing on 22 October.

Temba Bavuma returns from a fractured elbow to captain a Proteas outfit that has improved massively in the shortest format over the last two years. They’ve not lost a bilateral T20I series since Pakistan visited the Republic in 2021.

Since that defeat, the Proteas have claimed series wins against Ireland, England, Sri Lanka and the West Indies while also drawing a series against India.

The squad is relatively settled at the moment, with only Rassie van der Dussen (finger) set to miss out through injury while only new-ish face in the side is Tristan Stubbs.

The 22-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in world cricket at the minute and will relish the chance to shine on the biggest stage. Bjorn Fonteuin, Marco Jansen and Anile Phelukwayo have been named as reserves.

Squad:

Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs.

Reserves:

Bjorn Fontuin, Marco Jansen, Andile Phelukwayo.
