Amid the Rugby World Cup and Cricket World Cup mania gripping South Africa, the Proteas’ women’s team was also busy this past weekend.

They took on New Zealand’s White Ferns Saturday and Sunday in the fourth and fifth matches of their Twenty20 International series.

The ladies ended the series with a victory, beating the visitors by 11 runs and levelling the series at 1-1.

Speaking to SuperSport, Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt gave credit to the team’s bowlers, saying that they had an incredible bowling performance.

“They (New Zealand) had the game, and we just had some great seam bowling at the end,” said Wolvaardt.

“We really nailed those plans… Death bowling has been an area we’ve been looking at over the last T20s. We are really happy everything came together again, and our whole team has done exceptionally well.”

South Africa had won the three-match One Day International series over a week ago 2-1, winning the first two by four wickets and seven wickets respectively. However, New Zealand, won the third match at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium by six wickets.

The series’ first, second and third matches of the T20Is had to be abandoned due to bad weather conditions in East London. However, the series resumed a few days later in Benoni. The riveting and intense matches at Willowmoore Park saw the Proteas lose the fourth T20I to the White Ferns by eight wickets, before winning the last one by 11 runs.
