Australia ultimately took the series 2-1, winning the last match by 5 wickets.

Australia took the lead in the first leg of the T20I test series by eight wickets in a challenging match-up, but that didn’t deter the Proteas as they registered their biggest win in the second leg of the series by securing a win and beating the champions by six wickets.

The Proteas were determined to close off the tournament with a win for the first time ever against the Aussies. They put in a thrilling performance; however, a few mistakes meant they ultimately lost the series.

Reflecting on the last match-up, Proteas Marizanne Kaap said the team didn’t get off on the right foot.

“I felt like we came back nicely and then we dropped off again in that back end. I was hoping for a big finish from Chloe and Nates there at the back end, but it didn’t work out that way,” said Kaap.

She added that the team had its moments on the field, however, it was basic mistakes that cost the team.

“We showed a good fight and overall, I’m happier than I would usually be,” she said.
