The T20 World Cup has been on the go for a week and we have already seen a couple of big upsets.

When it comes to the players who have starred in the tournament there are also a few unforeseen individuals in the mix.

Here we take a look at a handful of the players making waves at the T20 World Cup.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan’s wicket-keeper and opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has made a great start to the tournament.

Gurbaz has started well with back-to-back fifties and he has scored over 150 runs in his first two matches.

He was also the man of the match as Afghanistan beat New Zealand to make themselves favourites to progress from their group.

Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis was the standout as Australia started their tournament with an emphatic win over Oman.

While his runs and wickets contribution would be reduced against England, he still played a key role in helping Australia to victory.

Stoinis is an experienced player with the ability to turn matches with both bat and ball and he shows why franchise T20 sides love quality all-rounders.

Fazalhaq Farooqi

With nine wickets in just two matches, Fazalhaq Farooqi has quickly shot out to a lead in the 2024 T20 World Cup’s wicket-takers list.

The left-arm fast bowler has really enjoyed the Providence pitch which he has made the most of in his opening matches.

Farooqi has delivered on his skills brilliantly and used his incredible array of variations to keep batters off balance.

Mehran Khan

Experienced Oman bowler Mehran Khan has been a standout despite his team losing both their matches to date.

Khan has got the better of some top batters in what will likely be his last major ICC tournament.

He doesn’t have express pace but Khan has shown great skills in getting the ball to grip in the surface and deceive the batters.

Gerhard Erasmus

Gerhard Erasmus has enjoyed a great year for Namibia and his confidence was high coming into this tournament.

However, it is a whole different matter when it comes to delivering on the big stage and he has done a great job for his country so far.

Erasmus also played a great captain’s knock from the middle order against Scotland which gave his team a chance.

Aaron Jones

Aaron Jones wrote his name large across T20 World Cup history with his performance against Pakistan.

Jones also struck a brilliant unbeaten 94 in the United States opening match against Canada.

He looks like a player to watch in this tournament as the United States aim to continue causing upsets.
