KZN Women continue unbeaten run

Durban – The Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women’s team completed its second clean sweep of victories in as many weeks, defeating the Central Gauteng Lions in both the CSA Women’s Provincial One Day Competition and the CSA Provincial T20 Tournament this past weekend.

Having dispatched Free State in their first round of fixtures the team set off for its first away assignment of the season and proved that they will be a threat when the competitions get to their business ends.

The fifty-over showdown got the weekend’s action off to an exciting start with the KZN Women’s side beating their Highveld competition by six wickets.

The KZN side won the toss and bowled first and made light work of the hosts, knocking them over for just 76 inside thirty overs.

Jade De Figueredo and Nonkululeko Mlaba were the stand-out bowlers for KZN picking up four wickets each for ten and nineteen runs respectively.

In reply the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women’s team lost three wickets as they knocked off the runs in just over 21 overs.

Player/coach Denisha Devnarain top scored with 29 from 36 deliveries and they cruised home to a seven wicket victory.

The Sunday saw the shortest format of the game take centre stage but this time it was the hosts who won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Trisha Chetty’s 37 from 42 balls was the most significant contribution as the visitors put together 91 for seven in their twenty overs.

While the Lions were eyeing an opportunity to avenge the previous day’s loss, the bowling from the KZN women proved to be superior and they restricted the Lions to 74 all out in their twenty overs.

Dheyanka Naidoo and Dinesha Devnarain both picked up two wickets each and the other bowlers kept the run rate in check throughout to secure a seventeen run victory for KZN.
