The Hollywoodbets Dolphins had another strong day in their Sunfoil Series clash with the bizhub Highveld Lions at the Bidvest Wanderers, where they lead the hosts by 72 runs at the end of day two with three first innings wickets in hand.

The visitors made early inroads on the second morning with the Lions on 207/7 when Kerwin Mungroo had Aaron Phangiso for 11.

Eathan Bosch then picked up his third when he dismissed Mangaliso Mosehle for 42 and the Lions were batting at 213/9.

A rear-guard partnership from Sean Jamison and Beuren Hendricks then helped the Lions regain some ascendancy.

The pair put on 33 for the final wicket before Okuhle Cele picked up his third scalp which saw the Lions bowled out for 246.

Jamison managed to score 22 and Hendricks 10 which gave their side a reasonable first innings total.

Bosch and Cele, the two debutants, were the pick of the bowlers returning with figures of 3/43 and 3/19 respectively.

The Dolphins innings started with a shock as Sarel Erwee was caught at slip for a duck in the first over.

From there it was all Dolphins with make-shift opener Dane Vilas and Vaughn van Jaarsveld played some entertaining limited overs like cricket.

They bludgeoned 89 in just over 12 overs before Van Jaarsveld fell for a belligerent 42 off 31 deliveries.

Senuran Muthusamy joined Vilas as the rate understandably slowed but the runs didn’t cease.

Their partnership was worth 150 before Vilas became the third victim with the total on 239.

Vilas finished on a brilliant 128 from 153 balls which included 19 fours and one maximum.

The Dolphins then had a slight wobble as captain Khaya Zondo fell first ball and then Sibz Makhanya was stumped for three.

Calvin Savage joined the set Muthusamy with the scores level with the Dolphins on 246/5.

The Dolphins lost Muthusamy for a well-played 69 before Bosch contributed 13 before he fell right before the close of play.

Savage will resume on day three on 46 while Prenelan Subrayen is still yet to get off the mark.

The Dolphins will start on Saturday on 318/7.
