Strong Dolphins batting day in Tshwane

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are in a strong position at the end of day three of their 4-Day Franchise Series clash with the Multiply Titans at SuperSport Park, with a 255 run lead and three wickets in hand.

The Dolphins were patient with the bat throughout the day as they accumulated runs and built a strong lead.

Early in the day openers Jason Oakes and Grant Roelofsen erased the deficit and put on 49 before the former was caught behind for 18.

Roelofsen got to 37 off 73 balls and then became Shaun von Berg’s first victim, LBW to the leg spinner.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld made up for his first innings duck when he notched up his first 50 of the season.

Van Jaarsveld, who ended on 67, put on 67 for the third wicket with Cody Chetty, who scored 32. The pair took the Dolphins total to 149 Chetty fell victim to Von Berg, stumped.

With the lead at 110 and the Dolphins three down, Senuran Muthusamy joined Van Jaarsveld and they added a further 40 until the latter was well caught by keeper Moonsamy off Hawkin.

Muthusamy’s 20 and Sibz Makhanya’s 15 helped the Dolphins extend their lead, however with their advantage at 176 with four wickets in hand the Titans would still have felt confident.

A 42 run partnership between Calvin Savage and Rob Frylinck for the sixth wicket took the lead over 210.

Frylinck fell for 21 but Savage continued on his way to a half century.

When the umpires called the end of play due to bad light, Savage was 51 not out and captain Keshav Maharaj was five not out.

The Dolphins ended the day 294/7, a lead of 255 with three second innings wickets in hand.
