Valiant Dolphins downed by Warriors

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins pushed the Warriors all the way before the side fell six runs short of their required target in their Momentum One Day Cup clash at Buffalo Park in East London on Sunday.

It was only the second defeat the Dolphins have suffered this campaign and Prenelan Subrayen and his team were set a tough 293 to win the game after the Warriors batsmen had batted themselves into a strong position.

Two Warriors batsmen went past the fifty run mark with Matthew Breetzke and Jade de Klerk making 55 and 50 respectively, however they had a number of players that chipped in throughout the innings to get them to their final score.

The wickets were shared amongst the Dolphins bowlers with three of them bagging two wickets. Skipper Subrayen was the pick of the bowlers with two for 46 in his ten overs while Rob Frylinck and Okuhle Cele both also took two wickets.

The Dolphins were well and truly in the chase for large periods with Grant Roelofsen making another fifty, while Marques Ackerman made 43 from 41 balls batting at number three.

Cody Chetty, who was only making his second appearance of the competition, was the best batsman for the Dolphins as his 71 from 65 balls gave the Dolphins a real chance at pulling off an eighth win in the competition.

The lower order chipped in as the Dolphins went into the final over of the chase needing sixteen with only one wicket in hand.

Unfortunately, Keith Dudgeon and Cele were given too much to do and Dudgeon was dismissed off the final delivery of the innings.

The Dolphins face the Lions in their final round-robin game of the Momentum One Day Cup next week Friday in Potchefstroom before they prepare to host a semi-final.
