All Blacks Coach Steven Hansen has announced that he will step down after the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Steven Hansen confirmed the news at a press conference in Auckland. The All Blacks are in pursuit of their third consecutive Rugby World title, a feat, that if they achieve will cement their legacy as one of the best rugby teams of all time.

Hansen, who took over in 2011, has taken the All Blacks to dizzying heights with a record of 94 games, 84 wins, three draws, and eight losses across a six-year period. The All Blacks have stayed the world number one team every week since 2009. His exit will bring the curtain down on the greatest coaching legacy in rugby history.

Hansen reflected on the decision as ” right for the team and his family” and that ” the team is bigger than the individual”.

Scott Robertson, Warren Gatland, Joe Schmidt, and Hansen’s assistant – Ian Foster are all candidates to fill the role with Foster is the favourite to be offered the job.
