We preview Saturday’s Pool 1 European Rugby Champions Cup game between the Glasgow Warriors and Munster.

With only three points separating first-placed Munster from second-placed Glasgow in Pool 1, there’s plenty to play for when the sides collide at the Scoutstoun Stadium this Saturday

Glasgow Warriors v Munster | Saturday 14 January |  Scotstoun Stadium | 19:30

To Win (80 mins)
Glasgow Warriors 8/10 | Draw 18/1 | Munster 1/1

Glasgow
The Glasgow Warriors seem to have hit a purple-patch recently, as they come into this match on the back of a five-match winning run. The Scottish lads have swept all before them during this period, scoring 150 points for the loss of just 76, with flyhalf general Finn Russell seemingly having the ball on a string at times.

The Warriors have dug themselves out of the hole they seemed to be stuck in at the back end of last year (when they proceeded to lose three times in a row), and this upward trend would be complete with a win against their Pro 12 compadres, whom they would leapfrog into first place in their pool.

Munster

Meanwhile, Munster have hit their own sort of golden run recently, having been emerged as victors in five of their last six in all competitions (and currently sitting on three wins in a row). Peter O’Mahony’s charges will feel doubly confident after claiming the reverse fixture 38-17 in October of last year.

The Irishmen have been playing electrifying rugby of late, with Springbok center Jaco Taute a standout, having scored five tries in eleven games for his new club. Taute is enjoying his time in Limerick and Cork so much in fact, that he has recently signed a contract extension ruling the former Lion out of the majority of Super Rugby. The Stormers’ loss is most certainly Munster’s gain.

Verdict: Muster 1/1
Despite Glasgow’s impressive recent run, the might of Munster will be too much for them to bare. They seem to be hitting their straps this season (after the tragic loss of coach Anthony Foley), and with players such as Taute, halfback Connor Murray and winger-cum-fullback Simon Zebo in such devastating form, expect the Irishmen to better their hosts by 10 points or more.
