Free State Cheetahs vs Western Province: Currie Cup Round 2 Preview

2017 Currie Cup Round 2 Preview

This weekend the Cheetahs will host the Western Province in Bloemfontein, in what is set to be a scintillating encounter. The home team hasn’t lost in front of their home crowd since 2015, in the Currie Cup competition.
Cheetahs v Western Province | Sunday 30 July | Bloemfontein | 14:30

To Win (80 Mins)
Cheetahs 11/10 | Draw 22/1 | Western Province 13/20

Cheetahs
The defending champs outdid themselves when they lifted the 2016 trophy, and are showing signs of that sparkling form from last year. The only worry is, they’ll be headed off at the start of September to the Pro 14 before the end of the Currie Cup ends, that means their cream of the crop will vanish to Europe and the selectors will have to make-do with their current crop of local talent to keep their team afloat until the end of the Currie Cup campaign. Question is, can the boys from Bloem rack up enough points until their starring role players leave, or can the local talent pick up from where they left off?

Western Province
The Stormers exit of the Super Rugby campaign was heart-wrenching as an SA rugby supporter, nonetheless, the boys from the Cape have wiped their shame and are gearing up for what’s ahead. This means more players will be available for selection, while some will obviously be rested after an overhaul of rugby. This will certainly be a highlight for the weekend, as both teams are playing some quality rugby and have tons of talent in their camps.

Verdict: Cheetahs 11/10
With the Cheetahs aiming to rack as many points as possible before their departure to the Pro 14 and their use of their new Kings signings, as well their Super Rugby contingency, bet on them to take this by a close margin.
