Irish Premier Division: Week 18 Preview

Irish-Premier-Division-Preview

Our footy scribe previews all six Irish Premier Division fixtures which commence on Friday night.

In my maiden Irish Premier Division Preview, yours truly tipped a valuable 6/1 treble! I’m determined to build on that and with another full set of tasty fixtures this weekend, and I’m confident enough to do just that. There are five games on Friday evening and just one on Saturday. Round 18 looks a tiny bit tricky on the betting front but a couple of the clashes are eye-catching and I’m gutsy enough to give it a go. Let’s get to it!

Friday 16 June

Bray Wanderers 29/20 | Draw 47/20 | Derry City 17/10
We kick-start proceedings at Carlisle Grounds with Bray Wanderers playing host to Derry City. The hosts come into this clash without a win in their last five matches, whilst Derry City are unbeaten in their last 10 matches.

Four of the last five meetings between the sides have seen Over 2.5 Goals which can be found at 7/10. As for a result, Derry City are looking much stronger on the form guide and are well worth a punt at 17/10!

Drogheda United 15/2 | Draw 38/10 | Dundalk FC 3/10
The betting might suggest that this will be a walk in the park for Dundalk FC but looking at Drogheda United’s home form, anything is possible. Dundalk FC have won back-to-back matches away from home, scoring five goals without conceding. The home side are unbeaten in their last five home matches.

A fiery affair is expected but looking at Dundalk’s record against Drogheda – winning the last six meetings – it’s safe to say the away team should be backed. I do, however, feel that the Drogs will at least get a goal. Back Dundalk to win + Both Teams To Score at 2/1!

St Patricks 17/20 | Draw 24/10 | Bohemians FC 31/10
Next up, St Patricks will take on Bohemians. The Saints are second from bottom on the standing with just three wins from 17 games and to make matters worse, they have the worst home record in the league with five losses from eight matches.

Bohemians have won two matches on the bounce away from home and will be looking to make it three from three. However, St Patricks are fighting relegation, so a cagey contest is on the cards. Take Bohemians on the Double Chance at 17/20.

Cork City 7/20 | Draw 4/1 | Limerick FC 7/1
Runaway leaders Cork City have been immaculate with an outstanding 16 wins from 17 games, drawing once, scoring 48 goals and conceding just eight times. Limerick have been inconsistent at best and as a result, occupy mid-table.

Cork City have won their last three home games by three goals or more. They won the reverse tie 3-0 and are tipped to claim maximum points here. Back the log-leaders on the (-1) Handicap at 17/2.

Finn Harps FC 7/2 | Draw 49/20 | Shamrock Rovers 15/20
Finn Harps have won back-to-back games on their ground, whilst Shamrock Rovers have travelled dismally with six losses from eight games. The reverse tie ended in a five-goal thriller with Shamrock Rovers earning the bragging rights with a 3-2 victory.

Prior to that meeting, the previous six clashes between the sides had seen Under 2.5 goals and that can be found at 15/20. For the brave, it wouldn’t hurt to have a small strike on Finn Harps to capitalise on home advantage.

Saturday 17 June

Sligo Rovers 13/10 | Draw 22/10 | Galway United 2/1
In the final match of the round, Sligo Rovers will square off against Galway United in a relegation dogfight. The Bit o’ Red have been below-par on their ground and Galway are yet to win a game on the road.

In the last 10 meetings between the sides, nine have seen both teams find the back of the net. With that being said, it would be wise to follow the trend at 8/10.

LAST WEEK’S TREBLE WON @ 6/1

Derry City Win (6/10)
Bohemians FC vs Drogheda United – Under 2.5 Goals (13/20)
Cork City Win (17/10)

THIS WEEK’S TREBLE TIPPED @ 9/1
Dundalk Win + BTTS (2/1)
Cork City (-1) Handicap (17/20)
Sligo Rovers v Galway United – BTTS (8/10)
