Irish Premier Division: Weekend Preview

Irish Premier Division

Our footy writer previews all six Irish Premier Division fixtures which will get underway on Friday evening.

This weekend’s Irish Premier Division action certainly offers plenty of value. It’s all about making the right picks and selecting the most fitting exotic markets. The last couple of weeks have been a tad bit below-par on the tipping front but I’m confident I can turn things around with a tasty looking fixture list on the horizon.

I was hoping the Hollywoodbets Blog Lucky Stars page would give me some insight into whether I would be expecting a bit of cash this week but unfortunately, if you’re a Pisces like myself, it’s all about love, and let’s be honest, ‘what’s love got to do with it’? Enough with the Tina Turner greatest hits and lyrics, let’s get down to business!

Friday 14 July

St. Patricks 39/20  | Draw 9/4 | Derry City 13/10
When I initially looked at this fixture, I thought that both of these sides should find the back of the net but looking at past results, seven of the last nine meetings have gone the opposite way. St. Patricks fought tooth and nail last time out – but eventually went down to a superior Cork City side, losing 1-0 away from home – in a performance their fans can be proud of.

Derry City returned to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 home victory over Sligo Rovers, ending a run of back-to-back defeats. They have struggled away from home this term and are currently without a win in their last seven travels. A tightly contested affair is on the cards and the Under 2.5 Goals market catches the eye at 8/10.

Finn Harps 15/10 | Draw 2/1 | Bohemians 37/20
Friday night’s action comes to a close with Finn Harps playing host to Bohemians. The home side are off the back of a comprehensive 2-0 win at bottom-dwellers Drogheda United, with the result ending a run of two losses on the bounce.

Bohemians have been excellent on the road in recent weeks with three wins on the spin. They also have a terrific record against Finn Harps, with nine wins from the 11 meetings. Another stat to take note of is the fact that the last seven clashes between the sides have seen either one team find the back of the net or neither. Nonetheless, Bohemians on the Win/Draw Double Chance is the way to go at 5/10.

Saturday 15 July

Sligo Rovers 11/20 | Draw 28/10 | Drogheda United 9/2
Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United will end off proceedings on Saturday evening. The Bit o’ Red were hammered 4-0 at Derry City last time out and will be desperate to return to winning ways against Drogheda, who lie at the foot of the table with four consecutive losses, scoring once and conceding 14 times. The reverse tie ended in a 1-1 stalemate but with home advantage, Sligo Rovers are tipped to claim maximum points.

Sunday 16 July

Bray Wanderers 47/10 | Draw 33/10 | Cork City 5/10
We kick-start the gameweek with the runaway table-toppers, Cork City, taking on third-placed Bray Wanderers. The latter has been fairly decent on home soil but a lack of consistency has let them down far too often. The Seagulls were humiliated last time out, as Dundalk FC came to town and ran riot, claiming a whopping 3-0 victory.

Cork City, on the other hand, can do no wrong. They have been near perfect this season with a remarkable 19 wins and just one draw from 20 matches, scoring a colossal 55 goals and conceding only 10 times. This could prove to be a tricky encounter but I would suggest getting on the straight Cork City victory.

QUAD IS TIPPED @ 5/1
St Patricks v Derry City – Under 2.5 Goals 8/10
Bohemians Win/Draw Double Chance 5/10
Sligo Rovers Win 11/20
Cork City Win 5/10
