Race Preview & Notes:

Used as a possible springboard to the Gr. 3 Poule d’Essai des Poulaines, the first of the two features at Maisons-Laffitte on Thursday will see seven 3 year olds battle it out over 1400m in the Group 3 Prix Djebel.

The gifted KIRAM, already a winner at Maison-Laffitte, tops the betting boards here. This colt has already found success in a Group 3 before, winning the Eclispe Award at Chantilly in October, before following that up with a win in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte over 1200m in November. He has faced stiff competition before, and has shown ambitions for greater things. He shouldn’t be bothered by the extra furlong here.
Two other quality sorts  in CHARM SPIRIT  (2), who has not been seen since October where he gained 3rd place in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr.1), and EARNSHAW (3), who finished runner up in the Criterium International (Gr.1), will both provide legitimate opposition to the favourite in this race.  Jockey of Charm Spirit Olivier Peslier, is a two time winner of this feature race, winning the 2011 and 2012 edition.
Earner of a victorious comeback race in the Montenica Price (Listed-race), IMPERIATOR (6) will be interesting to judge in such company here, while SEE YOU SOON (7), enters this race on the back of his maiden victory at Chantilly.

BOOKRUNNER will have his first run on the Turf, after earning his maiden win as a 2 year old on the all weather track in November. It’s difficult to gauge how he will take to the new surface. His sire was a champion on the dirt and his dam a good filly on the turf. He is out to prove he can be a good horse on the turf  too.
