NEWS: Thulani Hlatshwayo declares readiness for Bafana return if needed

Addressing journalists at the recent MultiChoice Player Transition graduation ceremony, Hlatshwayo emphasized his commitment, stating, “I think I made it clear that it’s always an honour to represent your country and I made it clear during the SuperSport awards that I haven’t retired from the national team, so I’m still available.”

At 34 years old, Hlatshwayo would inject experience into the squad alongside fellow veterans Themba Zwane and Thabang Monare. However, he faces stiff competition for a starting berth, with Bafana coach Hugo Broos having various options in the centre-back position.

Broos, known for his strategic selections, recently shifted his focus to a younger defensive setup, evidenced by the inclusion of FCBS’s Siyabonga Ngezana over established names like Siyanda Xulu. However, logistical hurdles saw Ngezana’s withdrawal from the squad, prompting a revaluation of defensive choices.

Despite recent challenges, Bafana prepare to face Algeria on Tuesday night at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algiers, aiming for an improved performance following a 1-1 draw against Andorra.
