It may not be Rugby Union, but rugby fans will get something of an oval ball fix this weekend with the return of the National Rugby League. Australia’s Rugby League top tier restarts this coming Thursday with the high-flying Parramatta Eels taking on the reigning champions, the Brisbane Broncos.

Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels
Thursday 28 May
Suncorp Stadium

To Win (80 Mins)
Broncos 17/20
Draw 20/1
Eels 1/1

Broncos
The Broncos were enjoying a solid start to the 2020 season prior to the onset of COVID-19 winning their opening two fixtures. Their first victory saw them beat the Cowboys 21-28 away from home, while their second was a 22-18 home win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Broncos were handed a boost this week with exciting young half-back Brodie Croft set to start.  He could well be the key man for the hosts this Thursday.

Eels
The visitors find themselves at the top of the pops headed into Round 3. They opened their account with an 8-2 win over the Bulldogs and then registered a big win in the second week beating minnows the Titans 6-46.

The Eels will have fond memories of the last time they took on the Broncos as they ran out 58-0 victors.

Verdict: Broncos 17/20
I fancy the hosts here. While they’ll have no home crowd support – the games are being played behind closed doors – they will have an easy trip into the stadium while the Eels will have to fly in and fly out on the same day.
