In just 83 matches the Yankee slugger raced to Di Maggio’s record
Aaron Judge could be etched in the history books alongside Mark McGwire, Jose Abreu, and Joe Di Maggio come the end of the season. McGwire, Abreu, Di Maggio, and now Judge are the only rookies before the second half of a season gets underway to have hit 29 home runs.
Enter the Judge
Judge has played 83 matches thus far and sits on 29 home runs, McGwire finished his rookie season on 49 from 151 games, and Jose Abreu on 36 home runs from 145 matches.
The 22-year-old rookie ties legendary Joe DiMaggio’s home run record for the Yankees. In just 83 matches the Yankee slugger raced to Di Maggio’s record, with the second half of the season to go, Judge looks certain to surpass one of the greats.
Home Run Derby
Judge and teammate Gary Sanchez will take part in this year’s Home Run Derby on July 10.
Giancarlo Stanton from the Marlins hit 61 homers in last year’s derby and will attempt to defend his title against this year’s young blood. I just hope the derby doesn’t ruin Judge’s second half season swing.
Joe DiMaggio
Joe DiMaggio’s illustrious 13-year career saw him hit 361 home runs, but that figure could’ve been greater if he wasn’t called up to serve in the military. Joe holds the record for a 56 game hitting streak which he sealed in 1941.
DiMaggio was MVP for three years and was called up to the All-Star team in all 13 of seasons he was active in, and won nine World Series Championships. 1995 Hall of Famer, Di Maggio will forever remain in the history books.
