Result: Wayde Van Niekerk Wins Men’s 400M Final – IAAF World Championships 2017

Wayde Van Niekerk’s seamless performance saw him defend his Men’s 400M Final IAAF World Championships on the 8th of August in London 2017.


South African athlete, current world record holder and the 400M discipline champion, cruised through his final race at the IAAF World Championships in London, 8 August 2017.

His main challenger Isaac Makwala from Botswana, unfortunately, had to withdraw from the race after he suffered from food poisoning at a hotel allocated to visiting athletes.

Steven Gardiner from the Bahamas came in at second while the man that everyone had written off, Abdelelah Haroun, of Qatar ran in from 30 metres out to claim the bronze medal ahead of Botswana’s youngster, Thebe.

Van Niekerk finished at a time of 43.98 and won the men’s 400M final IAAF World Championships race with sheer class.
