Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Gennady “GGG” Golovkin: Fight Details

Boxer gets hit by opponent

It’s Cossack Thunder vs the poster boy of Mexican boxing – Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez will square off at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday 17 September.

The Kazakhstani is undefeated in 37 fights, winning an astounding 33 of those via knockouts. Alvarez – a Guadalajara native – only has one professional loss in 51 fights. That defeat came against Floyd Mayweather in September of 2013.

The Mexican has since matured as an all-round fighter and will fancy his chances against his ageing opponent.

Records
Both men have incredible records. Golovkin, especially with his knockout percentage of 89%, has decimated nearly everyone who has stood before him. “GGG”  has won all 37 of his professional bouts, 33 of which were by knockout.

Alvarez only two blemishes on an otherwise perfect record. A 2013 to Floyd Mayweather and a 2006 draw against the relatively unknown Jorge Juarez. Since that defeat against Mayweather, the Mexican has defeated the likes of Miguel Cotto, James Kirkland and Amir Khan. He’ll be desperate to claim another win for his 49-1-1 record.

Where is the fight happening?
The fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena, which played host to the recent Money Fight. It’s worth noting that this will be Canelo’s third fight at the venue, Golovkin on the other hand has never fought at the arena.
