South African NFD: Week 10 Preview

 NFD: Week-8-Preview

Our writer previews the South African NFD matchups gameweek 10 of the 2016/17 campaign.

Into the double digits we go with round 10 of the South African NFD looking promising on the betting front. It seems as though Thanda Royal Zulu prepared well for the campaign following their disastrous season last term as they remain unbeaten.

However, Stellenbosch FC aren’t giving them much breathing space and lie just three points off the leaders in second place. Let’s find out below what’s worth backing in this weekend’s set of matchups.

Saturday 5 November

Santos 13/10 | Draw 21/10 | FC Cape Town 2/1
Santos and FC Cape Town will square off in a local derby on Saturday afternoon. The home side lie in 14th place on the log with just one victory from nine matches. The People’s Team have drawn four games on the spin and will be looking to bag their second win of the season.

FC Cape Town returned to winning ways last time out with a 2-1 home win over Cape Town All Stars. Prior to that victory, FC Cape Town were on a three-match losing streak and they will be determined not to go back down that road. A cagey affair is on the cards and the draw should be backed at 21/10.

Witbank Spurs 12/10 | Draw 21/10 | Black Leopards 21/10
Both Witbank Spurs and Black Leopards are off the back of defeats. The latter fell to a 2-1 loss away to Jomo Cosmos, whilst Black Leopards lost 3-2 on home soil against Stellenbosch FC.

Neither side have been very consistent this season, but Witbank were on a two-match winning streak prior to their defeat last time out. They also pulled the double over Black Leopards last season and are well worth a punt to claim maximum points here.

Stellenbosch FC 11/20 | Draw 5/2 | Cape Town All Stars 5/1
Stellenbosch FC need to remain level headed if they are to keep in touching distance of Thanda Royal Zulu. The Capetonians have the best home record in the league with four wins from five matches and they will be eager to maintain that form.

Cape Town All Stars are yet to win on their travels, suffering three defeats and drawing twice, scoring five goals and conceding 11 times. The home win is tipped confidently.

Royal Eagles 15/20 | Draw 23/10 | Milano United 7/2
Royal Eagles may lack consistency but their home form has been brilliant as they remain unbeaten with three wins from four matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding only four times.

Milano United are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Magesi FC. However, their away form has been horrid, as they have suffered three losses from four matches, scoring just twice and conceding eight goals. Get on the home win.

Mbombela United 16/10 | Draw 19/10 | Jomo Cosmos 17/10
Mbombela United and Jomo Cosmos will go toe-to-toe on in what promises to be a cracking encounter. The home side have managed just two wins from nine matches and currently occupy 13th position on the table.
Jomo Cosmos have been inconsistent but look the better team at present. They have won four of their last six matches and are well worth a punt to edge the win here.

Magesi FC 2/1 | Draw 21/10 | Mthatha Bucks 13/10
Bottom-of-the-log Magesi FC are without a win in their last seven matches, including five defeats and two draws, scoring just once and conceding 14 times. Mthatha Bucks are coming off a well-deserved 2-2 home draw against table-toppers Thanda Royal Zulu and will be looking to build on that.

The new boys on the block will do their best to keep Mthatha at bay, but I doubt they will be able to hold them off for too long. Go for the away to come away with all three points.

Sunday 6 November

Thanda Royal Zulu 13/20 | Draw 24/10 | Univ. of Pretoria 42/10
Thanda Royal Zulu are the only unbeaten team in the league with six wins and three draws from nine games, scoring 23 goals and conceding just eight times. University of Pretoria are going through a bit of a rough patch and are without a win in three matches, including two defeats.

Thanda Royal are playing with confidence and look like a team capable of going the distance. With home advantage Amabhubesi are tipped for the all-important victory.

Real Kings FC 16/10 | Draw 19/10 | AmaZulu 17/10
Newcomers Real Kings FC have drawn their last three matches, including a 2-2 draw at University of Pretoria last time out. AmaZulu on the other hand, broke a four-match losing streak with a 2-0 home win against Mbombela United and will be determined to build on that.

This one could go either way, but I was impressed at how AmaZulu returned to winning ways last weekend and I think they could make it back-to-back victories here.

TREBLE @ 5/1

Stellenbosch FC Win 11/20
Royal Eagles Win 15/20
Mthatha Bucks Win 13/10
