Women’s Rugby World Cup: Round 2 Preview

Round 2 of the 2017 Women’s World Cup gets underway this Sunday afternoon and we’ve got you covered with our full preview.

The 2017 Women’s World Cup got off to a blistering start this past week with New Zealand, England and France running in some mammoth scores. All three of the aforementioned sides will continue to look to set the tone when they take to the field this Sunday.

New Zealand v Hong Kong | Sunday 13 August | Billings Park | 13:00

To Win (80 Mins)
New Zealand 1/100 | Draw 25/1 | Hong Kong 18/1

The first taste of action today comes courtesy of Pool A with New Zealand taking on Hong Kong in what should be an extremely one-sided affair. The New Zealand women got their campaign off to a blistering start as they made short work of Wales, running out 44-12 victors. Hong Kong, as expected, were drilled by Canada in their opener going down 98 – 0

Verdict: New Zealand 1/100
There is no handicap at the time of writing but if you have R 10 000 lying around go bomb it on the New Zealand win as there is not a chance in hell Hong Kong are getting anywhere near this Silver Ferns side. If a cap comes out and it’s less than 100 points, then gobble it up as the New Zealanders will put more than a century on the board today.

England v Italy | Sunday 13 August | Billings Park | 15:30

To Win (80 Mins)
England 1/100 | Draw 30/1 | Italy 14/1

We have an all Six Nations affair up next with England and Italy set to lock horns at Billings Park. The English ladies come into this one off the back of a 56-5 victory over Spain while the Italians come into this one having gone down 24-12 to the USA in their opening fixture. The two sides met during this year’s Six Nations and the Italians certainly held their own going down by only 14 points.

Verdict: England 1/100
Again, there’s no handicap out for this one as of yet but England should have way too much firepower for the Italians to cope with. The smart move here is to double the England win onto the New Zealand win and have a proper strike at the 2/100 you’ll be offered – neither of these teams will lose their fixtures, I can assure you of that.

Spain v USA | Sunday 13 August | UCD Bowl | 15:45

To Win (80 Mins)
Spain 13/2 | Draw 35/1 | USA 1/14

We move back to Pool B now with the second fixture from the group seeing the Spanish women’s side locking horns with the Americans. As noted earlier, the Spanish got their campaign off to a less than impressive start as they shipped in-excess of 50 points to the English while only scoring five of their own. The Americans, on the other hand, managed to beat the Italians by 12 points and ran in a try scoring bonus point.

Verdict: USA 1/14
I quite like this treble that combines the New Zealand win, England win and USA win. And while odds of 9/100 are nothing to write home about, you would be essentially gifting yourself R90 should you take this treble for R1000 as there is no chance the Spaniards will beat the Americans.

Canada v Wales |Sunday 13 August | Billings Park | 18:00

To Win (80 Mins)
Canada 1/100 | Draw 30/1 | Wales 14/1

The Pool A action comes to close with Canada taking on Wales. The Welsh haven’t been given much of chance here and are 14/1 for the win despite putting in a decent enough display against the New Zealand ladies in the opening round. The main reason for the Welsh being 14/1 was Canada’s huge victory over Hong Kong in the first round.

Verdict: Wales 14/1
I think the books have overreacted here and that this game will be a lot tighter than they think it will be. Wales were extremely competitive during the Six Nations and I think they could spring a surprise here. I’ll be having a R10 punt of the Weslh ladies to cause a shock.

Ireland v Japan | Sunday 13 August | UCD Bowl | 18:15

To Win (80 Mins)
Ireland 1/100 | Draw 30/1 | Japan 14/1

The tournament hosts take on Japan in the day’s penultimate fixture which will be played in front of a large crowd at the UCD Bowl. The Irish got their campaign off to a solid start beating a much-fancied Australian side 19-17. Conversely, Japan were absolutely thumped in the opening round going down 72-14 to France.

Verdict: Ireland 1/100
This is another game to add to our long running multiple.England, Ireland, New Zealand, and the USA on the straight equates to a decent enough 1/10.

France v Australia | Sunday 13 August | UCD Bowl | 18:15

To Win (80 Mins)
France 1/8 | Draw  25/1 | Australia 5/1
This is likely to be the tightest of all the games. The French opened up their campaign in fine style with a big win over Japan but the Wallaroos will have taken a lot of heart from their two-point defeat to the Irish.

Verdict: Australia 5/1
I will be having another R10 speculator here as I really do think the Aussies could cause an upset.
