Race 4

Today’s best bet, POWER ME UP has won four of his last five starts and put his disappointing penultimate effort over nine furlongs firmly behind him when winning his last outing over a mile, albeit by just a neck. He took the lead at the 500M mark that day and held off all the late challengers over the closing stages of the contest. He has a handy draw four and could prove difficult to topple here.

BELL’S INNOCENT had to weave his way through traffic to get a clear run but still finished strongly to end up in second place last time out over six furlongs, 1.2L back from the winner, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. He jumps from gate eight and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

Although GHOST DOCTOR is recorded as finishing seventh in his last outing over six furlongs, he was just three lengths behind the victor, this despite having to be held up between the 200M and 50M marks. He will have to overcome a wide draw twelve out of thirteen, but on the plus side, he will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 5

Two 3yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, POURING RAIN is taken to lead the field home. She has only had the four runs to date, but won on debut over 1050M and then has not been far off the action in her three runs since then, the latest when fourth over six furlongs, 2.7L adrift of the winner. She was a long way off the leaders turning into the home straight that day but finished off her race strongly. She will have to negotiate draw thirteen, but she should be doing her best work late.

MESCAMINTO made solid improvement to end up in second spot is her latest outing over 1175M, 1.8L behind the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the straight that day, so did well to finish as close to the winner as she did. She has a far kinder draw three and should be right up there when they hit the line.

WILGA HILL had to be steadied at the 1000M pole before finishing well to win by 1.2L first time out over 1300M and the form of that race has been franked. He has pulled draw seven and should keep the top two selections honest.

Race 6

NUCLEAR ENERGY showed marked improvement to win his maiden race last time out over a mile by half a length. He struck the front as the field entered the home straight that day and then stayed on well to repel all the late challengers. He gets a cosy draw four and looks to be the one to side with in this line-up.

JUST BUSINESS has turned in two solid last efforts, the latest when making good late progress to finish third over seven furlongs, just a head back from the victor. The gelding faces a wide draw thirteen, but the extra distance should be to his liking.

OKRA followed up his penultimate run victory over nine furlongs with a second place finish next time out over 1500M, beaten just a short-head in the shadow of the post. He has a far kinder gate two and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

SEVENTH SEAL has finished third in his last two runs, the latest over 1175M, 3.8L adrift of the winner. He is a speedy sort who is drawn in gate seven and could prove to be difficult to reel in over the shorter five-furlong sprint.

UNDERWOOD is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she, by coincidence has also finished third in her last two outings, although in her case, both over today’s trip, the latest when beaten just under half a length. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and from her handy draw four, she will be hoping to make amends today.

CHAIRMAN’S CHOICE is drawn one inside the latter and has posted one second and two third-place finishes in his last three starts, the latest when third over six furlongs, 2.8L back from the victor. He came six wide into the home stretch that day and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. He should not be lightly overlooked in this field.
