Race 5

Two 3yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the narrow top choice goes to the consistent DEEP SCEIVA who finished second in her last run over six furlongs, just under two lengths back from the winner. She was returning from a 13 week absence that day and was only run out of it very late. She is drawn in gate six and will get the services of ex-SA jockey Sean Cormack, who will be looking to go one better today. MARLA JANE has only had the two runs to date and showed the expected improvement last time out when second over this trip, just a neck behind the winner. She was returning from a 22 week break that day and if she has continued down that same path, she could find herself in the winner’s box. Her draw four will do her no harm. BRAZEN BRECCIA finished fifth in his last start over 1300M, 3.8L behind the victor, but did finish third in his penultimate start over this distance, just a half length back from the winner and appears to favor this trip at this stage of his career. He has only had the three runs so far, but did win a subsequent barrier trial to add to his experience. He faces draw eight, but should keep the top two fillies honest.

Race 6

ELECTRIFIED followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a short-head second place finish over the same distance next time out. He made good late progress in that contest, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He will have to overcome draw nine out of eleven, but the form of that last race has been franked and could chalk up career win number five here. He is taken to be the value bet on the program. SILESIAN attempts his hat-trick today after winning his latest start over eleven furlongs by a length. He takes a fair drop in distance, but he did put nearly fourteen lengths between himself and the balance of the field when winning his penultimate outing over today’s journey. He will jump from gate four and will have ex-SA jockey Robbie Fradd in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. STEEL PIER also drops in trip after staying on well to end up in fourth place last time out over eleven furlongs, just over four lengths back from the winner, but the colt did win over nine furlongs three runs back, so this should not present a problem. He has pulled gate six and should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.

Race 7

BUSHIDO has his hat-trick run after being a comfortable 1.8L winner of his last start over this distance. The form of that race has stood up well and despite him being drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, he looks to be the one that they all have to beat. FINUCANE MISSILE has a far kinder gate two and is also attempting to complete his trio of victories after he won his last outing over this distance by just under a half a length, when returning from a 16 week break. He appears to be the immediate danger to the top choice. VOULAIT has shown steady improvement in his last three runs, culminating with a short-head victory last time out over six furlongs. He was friendless in the betting markets that day, but hit the front at the 250M mark and then held off all challengers over the closing stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here should not be an issue. From draw five, he should be included in all bets.

Race 8

Today’s best bet, TWO SMOKIN BARRELS had finished second in his last four runs before having that consistency rewarded with his maiden win last time out over this mile trip. He jumped awkwardly that day, but quickly recovered to get to the front and then proceeded to put nearly six lengths between himself and the opposition. He takes on stronger here, but he has cracked pole position and could prove good enough to chalk up a quick double. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. VENDIDIT finished third in his last outing over seven furlongs, just over two and a half lengths adrift of the winner. The form of that race has thrown out three winners since and he has his peak outing here after returning from a 10 week rest. From gate two, he looks to be the immediate danger to the top pick. MOSSHIKI stayed on strongly when showing good improvement to finish second in his last start over this trip, one length behind the winner. He will have to negotiate draw nine, but he should be involved in the finish.
