Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. DAICHI has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over five furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win by one length next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, despite hanging out in the home straight. He returns from a 16-week rest but has put in an encouraging barrier trial to prove his fitness. He no doubt would have come on further during the break and from his pole position, he could be the one to side with here.

PERLANT is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she had finished second and fourth in her two runs prior to ending up in fourth place last time out over five furlongs, 3.8L behind the winner. It should however be noted that she only saw daylight at the 300M mark that day and then started to hang out from the 250M pole. She is drawn one outside the top choice and should give the males a good run for their money.

WUDDACUDDASHUDDA had solid form before disappointing last time out when finishing eleventh over six furlongs, just over seven lengths adrift of the victor when returning from a 31-week break, but he had to be held up shortly after entering the home straight and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. He gets gate seven and a set of blinkers are fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

Race 6

CROSS TALK showed plenty of toe before putting four lengths between himself and the opposition when winning on debut over six furlongs and could be just about anything. He returns from a 24-week absence but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest to showcase his well-being. He has a wideish gate seven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

KUNG FU MUSHU gets gate five and is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she had her consistency rewarded with her maiden victory last time out over 1300M by a head, notwithstanding coming four wide into the home straight. She was returning from a 38 week rest that day and finished off her race well, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here.

Although SONIC TYCOON is recorded as finishing seventh in his latest outing over nine furlongs, he was just four lengths back from the winner. He tried to go from gun to wire that day and was only run out of it late. He has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a shorter 17 week rest, but he did finish third in his only barrier trial. If fully settled into his new surroundings and from a handy draw two, he should give a good account of himself here.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, WHEELHOUSE has cracked pole position and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when seventh over six furlongs, 3.8L back from the winner when returning from a 23-week break and two barrier trials. He was bumped down at the start that day but ran on really well over the closing stages. On that effort, he should enjoy the extra distance here.

QUACKERJACK is seldom far off the action ending up in fourth spot last time out over seven furlongs, just under a length and a half behind the winner when returning from a longer 29-week rest. He had to be held up between the 300M and 200M marks before switching out to get a clear run. He jumps from draw five and with better luck in running today, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

RELOADED finished thirteenth in his last outing over a mile, 6.6L off the winner, but had nothing go his way that day. He jumped awkwardly and overraced in the early stages and then had to be checked off the heels of other runners and then took a bump in that movement, before eventually not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight. To compound matters further, his jockey put up 1.5kgs overweight. That effort should obviously be totally ignored and despite drawing eight out of nine, he should be included in all bets.

Race 8

BUBA is a 5yr old mare taking on boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and stayed on well when finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner. She came three-wide into the home straight that day and from her handy draw three she could prove hard to topple here and as such, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

The same comment about consistency can be said about FREE RIDER who won his last start over seven furlongs by 1.8L and the form of that race has stood up well, with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He has his first run for his new trainer and has pulled gate six. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, given the additional assistance he will receive by having 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

CAROLINA FIRE is a 4yr old filly who made solid improvement to win her maiden race last time out over 1500M by two and a half lengths. A known front runner, she should be able to move across from draw eight without burning up too much energy and she does have her peak run after returning from a 20-week rest.
