Race 7

The day’s value bet, LIGHTNING JACK has won two of his last three runs, the latest over a mile by just over half a length when friendless in the betting markets. He jumped awkwardly that day and raced midfield before finishing well when seeing daylight at the 300M mark to win going away. On that effort, he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he should be doing his best work late.

CRIADERAS is drawn one outside the top choice and was slow away before making good late progress to finish third last time out over a mile, just over one and a half lengths behind the winner.

He renews his rivalry with STOCKMAN who finished 1.9L behind the victor in the race mentioned above. He stayed on well that day and as he meets the former on 0.5kgs better terms today, there should not be much separating the pair when they hit the line. His slightly better draw seven will be an added advantage.

Race 8

TAMERLANE has consistent formlines to his name. He jumped awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start and then hung in over the latter stages when ending up in second place last time out over six furlongs, just a neck back from the winner. He was returning from a 15-week rest that day and whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate thirteen, the gelding looks to be the one to side with here.

ANIMATE is seldom far off the actions and was crowded in the early stages last time out over seven furlongs, eventually finishing fourth, 4.2L back from the winner. He has had two barrier trials since then, winning the latest. He jumps from gate eight and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. In addition, he gets a set of blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

RANGERS followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a sixth-place finish next time out over the same trip, just over two and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He jumped awkwardly and overraced in the middle stages in that contest and then had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 600M pole, so did well to finish as close to the winner as he did. The form of that race has been franked and from his handy draw four, he should be included in all bets.

Race 9

SNIPPY FOX is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1250M and the latest over six furlongs by just under two and a half lengths. She hit the front at the 200M mark that day and the contest was over from that point. She has her peak run here after returning from a 23-week break and has a cosy draw four.

BLACK DUKE has consistent formlines to his credit and finished well to just fail to win his last start over seven furlongs, ending up in third place, just under half a length back from the winner. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, he will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and will also have the blinkers re-fitted for today’s run.

BLESK’S last four runs have yielded one win, three runs back, along with three second-place finishes. He was held up through the 400M mark before finishing well when eventually clear at the 250M pole, ending up in one of those second spots last time out over seven furlongs, just over two lengths back from the winner. He faces a wide gate fourteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages, before picking off the front runners over the closing stages of the race.

Race 10

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, WAIHAHA FALLS to chalk up his third career victory. He was bumped shortly after the start, but recovered quickly to race just behind the leaders and then found a strong finish to get up in the shadow of the post for a short-head victory. His jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding gets draw seven and has his peak run since returning from a 10-week absence and could prove hard to topple in this line-up.

OTYRAR jumped awkwardly, finding himself at the back of the field and forced to come three-wide into the home stretch before unleashing a powerful finish to fail by a head last time out over a mile. He was returning from a 26-week rest that day and from draw three, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

CASINO KID has cracked pole position and has finished third in his last two outings, the latest over 1500M, one length off the winner. He was bumped shortly after the start that day and his jockey dropped his crop 100M from the finishing post. With better luck in running today, he should be right up there in the mix.
