Race 4.

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative fist choice goes to BUZZ who showed marked improvement to win by just over half a length last time out over seven furlongs. He jumped awkwardly that day, but recovered quickly to get to the front of the field and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. He gets a handy draw two and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. REJOICED has only had the three runs to date and missed out on his hat-trick when finishing seventh last time out when stepping up to a mile, 2.3L behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from gate seven, he is likely to adopt similar tactics here. The slight drop in distance is sure to be to his liking. THE DEFIANT ONE is drawn one inside the latter and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, culminating with a head victory last time out over six furlongs, despite having to be held up entering the home straight. He hit the front at the 100M mark that day and then bravely held off all the late challengers. The form of that race has been franked and he is another to get 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 5.

CONFESSED was slow away, but then made good late progress over the latter stages to end up in second place last time out over six furlongs, one length back from the winner and the form of that contest has been franked. She was returning from a 20 week break that day and from draw five, she looks to be the one to side with in this line-up. KUNG FU MUSHU has cracked pole position and had her consistency rewarded with a head victory last time out over 1300M, notwithstanding coming four wide into the home stretch. She returns from a 12 week rest, but did finish third in her only battier trial to showcase her well-being. TANZIMAT battled all the way down to the line when winning her maiden race by a short-head in her latest outing over 1300M. She takes on stronger today and is drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, but she may well be up to the task at hand.

Race 6.

The day’s best bet, TELLURIDE was hampered shortly after the start and found herself towards the back of the field before finishing strongly to end up in second spot last time out over five furlongs, one and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She faces a wideish gate nine, but on the plus side will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. She renews her rivalry with STORMBORN who finished 1.6L behind the winner in the race mentioned above. She did come the widest of the lot entering the home straight that day and then stayed on well over the latter stages, but as she meets the top pick on 1.5kgs worse terms today, she may have to settle for the same result. Her draw seven gives her no real advantage either. RIVA DEL SOL has won both of her first two starts over the five furlong sprint trip by the same one and a half lengths, so clearly has some ability. She showed plenty of toe on both those occasions and last time out kicked clear of the pack at the top of the home straight. From a cozy draw three, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 7.

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, STARBORETA to chalk up her second career victory. She is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a third place finish next time out over six furlongs, just over one length behind the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 150M pole, but then finished off her race well and the form of that contest has been franked. She gets gate seven and has her peak run after returning from a 22 week absence. FLUCUATE jumped awkwardly and then hung out from the 400M mark until the entrance into the home straight and then raced green over the final 100M, but still managed to win by 1.3L first time out over five furlongs. She jumps from gate two and should be right up there when they hit the line. PER IVY is a 3yr old filly who won over five furlong first time out and then finished third in her latest start over the same trip, 1.2L behind the winner. She raced just behind the leaders that day and from her wideish gate eight, she should use her early gate speed to move across without consuming too much energy.
