Race 7

FIVE OXFORD is seldom far off the action and raced handy when staying on well to finish fourth last time out over five furlongs, just over two lengths behind the winner. The form of that race has been franked and from a handy draw three, he could be the one that they all have to beat. Two 5yr old mares could chase him home, with the slight preference going to COSSIE who overraced before ending up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, 1.3L back from the winner. She gets cheekpieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she could trouble the top choice. She jumps from a wideish gate seven, but will have 1.5kgs taken off her back for the services of apprentice jockey Jaden Lloyd, the son of ex-SA Champion jockey Jeff Lloyd, to aid her cause. GLOBAL FACTOR has finished third in her last two starts and came four-wide into the home straight before finishing just over a length and a half behind the winner last time out over five furlongs. She faces a wide gate eleven, but on the plus side, she will get 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

Race 8

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the way may have been cleared for today’s best bet, MISS BARTY to chalk up her second career victory. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and tried to go from jump to wire before being collared late to finish third last time out over this sprint distance. She will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and given that the second and third selection have poor draws to deal with, she could prove difficult to topple here. AFTER THE STORM is a 4yr old filly who made good late progress to finish fifth is her last start over six furlongs, 3.8L adrift of the victor. She will have to negotiate draw ten, but nevertheless looks to be the immediate danger to the top pick. SPECIAL CASE has not been far back in his last three outings over five furlongs and battled all the way down to the wire in his latest start, when finishing just over three lengths behind the winner. He steps up in trip, but on that last effort, this should not present an issue. He will have to overcome a wide draw thirteen, but should still be involved in the finish.

Race 9

As with the previous race, the late scratching of a big runner in the contest could assist PERSIAN KING secure his second career win. He followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a fourth place finish over the same c&d next time out, just under a length and a half back from the winner. The form of that race has stood up well and from pole position, he looks to be the one to side with in this line-up. TO LOVE SOMEBODY also won his penultimate start, but in his case, by half a length over today’s distance. He then raced four wide to finish seventh next time out over 1100M, nearly eleven lengths behind the winner. He was however returning from a lengthy 33 week break that day and had posted consistent formlines before the rest. If that effort can be forgiven and if bouncing back to his previous form, from gate six, he could threaten the former. PLATEAU PEARL is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but although she is recorded as finishing sixth last time out over six furlongs, she was just two lengths adrift of the winner. She finished well that day despite coming four wide into the home straight and whilst she faces a wide gate thirteen today, she is likely to be dropped out of the race in the early stages and should start picking off the frontrunners in the dash down to the line.

Race 10

BY THE LAW missed out on his hat-trick when finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, just under a length behind the victor. He stepped up in trip that day after winning his previous two starts over today’s distance, but the form of that race has been franked, so the effort was encouraging. He will get 3kgs taken off his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice and jumping from gate three, he is taken to be the value bet on the program. HEART VANDELAY has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over six furlongs, where he ended up one length back from the winner. He did not get the clearest of passages during that race and from draw six and with better luck in running today, he should be right up there when they hit the winning post. ARUBA drops in trip from finishing sixth last time out over 1500M, just over one and a half lengths off the winner, to today’s seven-furlong journey, but did finish third over this distance in his penultimate run, so this should not present a problem. He is sure to put his gate two to good use and should be included in all bets.
