Race 5

MIDORI BEAUTY jumped awkwardly and came the widest of them all into the home straight before finishing strongly to get up to win by a short-head in the shadow of the post and the form of that race has been franked. He gets gate seven and the double is very much on the cards.

THE BULLRING has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when third over six furlongs, just over two lengths behind the victor. He jumped awkwardly and had to be held up entering the home straight that day, but finished off his race well. He is drawn the widest in gate ten, but if he has continued down that same path of improvement, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

YUMI is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she showed marked improvement to win her maiden race by two lengths last time out over this trip, despite coming three-wide into the home stretch. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has cracked pole position and will be having her peak run after returning from a 29-week break.

Race 6

There are five unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believes that they can win the first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, YAGOONA may prove to be the best. He has only had the two runs to date, finishing fourth over six furlongs on debut and then fifth last time out when stepping up to seven furlongs, 8.4L back from the winner, but it should be noted that he was hampered shortly after the start. He will have to negotiate draw eleven but seems likely to enjoy the drop in distance at this stage of his career.

PRASIOLITE is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she is seldom too far off the action, finishing seventh in her last outing over seven furlongs, just four lengths behind the winner. She returns from an 18-week rest, but has had a barrier trial and gets the services of ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield, so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

UNCAGED was a bit disappointing last time out when finishing fourth over six furlongs, 6.7L adrift of the winner, but he was returning from a 21-week rest and did jump awkwardly. He recovered quickly to race up with the pace but did not quite go on with his effort. He should have improved with the run under his belt and notwithstanding a wide gate twelve, he should be included in all bets.

Race 7

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, DEPICTION to chalk up his second career victory. He followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs where he put five lengths between himself and the opposition with a second-place finish next time out over 1300M, beaten just a short-head and the form of that race has been franked. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and jumping from gate seven, he will be hoping to make amends today.

BAILEYS came five wide into the home straight and was reported to have cast a shoe when ending up in fourth spot last time out over 1100M, one and a half lengths behind the winner. A repeat of his penultimate start would see him right up there in the firing line.

LUCKY TO WIN was hampered at the start and then had to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 200M pole before ending up in fifth place in his latest outing over 1300M, just over two lengths back from the winner. He will have to overcome a wide draw ten, but should nevertheless be involved in the finish.

Race 8

WICHITA WARRIOR won his penultimate start over a mile and then finished fourth last time out over 1500M, 1.8L behind the winner, but he was bumped and badly hampered at the 900M mark that day and found himself at the back of the field. He then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight and under the circumstances, did well to finish as close to the winner as he did. He has pulled a handy draw five and with better luck in running today, he looks to be the one to side with here and is taken to be the day’s value bet.

RODRICK’S SECRET went from jump to wire when putting six lengths between himself and the balance of the field to win his last outing over a mile. From gate seven here, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

KERMATIN is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a 3.3L victory last time out over a mile. That win was made even more encouraging by the fact that she was slow away and then overraced in the early and middle stages, but still managed to end off her race powerfully. She has drawn gate four and should give the males a good run for their money.
