Coral Cup Handicap Preview

Race 3 – 16:50
Grade 3 – 2m 5f

A ferocious betting heat where Hollywoodbets’ ‘Five Fixed Odds’ places can be a boon, the Coral Cup can provide upsets such as 20-1 roughie Bleu Berry last year.

The same horse goes for a repeat but has been out of form, the ante-post market plunge being on his countryman URADEL, as short as 5-1 for the Willie Mullins/Ruby Walsh team. Uradel has been a fragile horse to train with just three visits to the track last season, but his latest offering at Leopardstown had the bookies running for cover as he came through beaten horses under an educational ride to finish just out of the money.

BRIO CONTI is another that has required kid-glove handling from his trainer, in this case Paul Nicholls. The eight-year-old has been seen just three times in the past two seasons but looked right back to his best when beating Honest Vic at Ascot last month.

BALLYANDY won the Champion Bumper two years ago and has proved a smart hurdler, winning the Betfair at Newbury last season after running well to a point in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. A chasing campaign was aborted after a disappointing start but in his last two outings Nigel Twiston-Davies’s gelding has looked right back to form. At 25-1 he represents very good Each Way value.

VISION DES FLOS and the novice HIGHEST SUN could both figure for trainer Colin Tizzard and ERICK LE ROUGE is on the crest of a wave and can’t be left out. BURBANK is another to include in Quartets.

Neil Morrice’s Predicted Finish
12-22-15-13-2

1: BALLYANDY (12)
2: Uradel (22)
3: Burbank (15)
4: Brio Conti (13)
5: Vision Des Flos (2)
