Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: RUSTAR DHOW(4)
Race 2: SILVER LAUREL(1)
Race 4: PERCIVAL(4)
Race 6: NORTHERN BALLET(3)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: PRUDENCE PREVAIL(1)
Jockey: Grant BEHR – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

Just seven races carded today but there are some competitive events which should result in exciting finishes and decent dividends. PRUDENCE PREVAILS dislodged her replacement rider at the start of her last effort when she was well fancied. That formline has worked out really well though, with the runner-up Northern Ballet (won twice) and 3rd placed finisher Golden Pass emerging victorious since. the daughter of Jay Peg posted some quality prior performances, including a smart c & d run earlier this year. The grey filly should be strongly considered despite her awkward draw.

TOP BET

Race 2: FORT RUBY(5)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

It could pay to follow the progress of Pint Pot who runs in the opening event as that chestnut filly finished just under one length adrift of the top rating of this contest, FORT RUBY, over this distance three weeks ago. The Snaith inmate expectedly came on from her fair debut run and she ran on smartly for 2nd at Kenilworth. She was beaten exactly one length at the wire and she has lots more scope for progress.

Race 3: OVER DRIVE(9)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

OVER DRIVE
may have suffered a setback as he returns from a 36-week absence. The Snaith inmate was strongly fancied when he showed pace on his debut over this trip at Kenilworth but unfortunately found one too good for him in the form of the classy Elevated. The Var colt has obvious ability though and his conditioner’s patience could be rewarded here. The top selection jumps from the best draw and he can make a winning comeback. The betting market will be a good guide as to his chances.

Race 4: OVAR(6)

Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Willem A NEL

The day’s topliner features just eight speedsters but they are loaded with ability and should ensure a cracking finish to this competitive handicap. OVAR loves this minimum distance and he remained consistent albeit well beaten by the speedy OLYMPIAN at Kenilworth, four weeks ago. The Var gelding is certainly capable of better and the 7kg favourable weight reversal with his conqueror brings him heavily into contention. Today’s jockey knows him better and the Andre Nel inmate has a solid record over this track & trip. Furthermore, he jumps from the best draw. The latter also boasts some solid c & d statistics and he should still be a major force despite top weight and the resultant six-pound penalty for that effortless last victory. He does have an awkward draw to overcome and that may count against him in the finish.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: CAPTAINS COMPANI(2)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

This is an intriguing fillies and mares handicap where the Brett Crawford yard is well-represented, with riding engagements indicating that CAPTAINS COMPANION is the right one. The grey filly had two much-improved comeback runs this season and she dips heavily in class now. She set the pace and was running on again at the finish over a mile in strong company at Kenilworth two weeks ago. That outing clearly indicated that the daughter of Captain Al is searching for further and her conditioner has obliged. She now has her peak outing and could well have the run of the race in this small field, from the best draw.
