Some really competitive racing on the polytrack tonight and a genuine case can be made for most of the nine entrants on display in this opening event. DANISH CROSS is well-bred and she made expected progress in a competitive contest on the grass last time out. She injured herself at the start when withdrawn subsequently but her conditioner is obviously pleased with her progress since. The daughter of Pathfork tries the polytrack but her pace will be an asset and she should be involved from her good draw.
Race 3: ROMAN SOCIETY(7)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Dennis BOSCH
ROMAN SOCIETY has fair recent form at this level and he seems to be bumping the right field tonight. His only career win came over this c & d and the four-year old gelding is the stable’s only entrant on the evening. Top jockey De Melo knows him well.

Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Johan Janse V/VUUREN
The Gauteng visitor CROWD PLEASER has fond memories of this province, having posted his career-best performances here, including an impressive start-to-finish maiden victory over this c & d on Gold Cup Day last year. His subsequent Highveld form in much stronger company has been fair and he should strip fitter after perhaps just needing his comeback run, two weeks ago. The son of Captain Al is the only natural pacesetter in this field and he could be a straight forward ride for his top jockey. He is the stable’s solitary representative on the card.
Race 8: POMONA(11)
POMONA drifted alarmingly in the betting market but still produced an eye-catching c & d debut earlier this month. She stayed on at the finish for 3rd behind the ultra-consistent Soldier’s Bride (runs in previous event) and the daughter of Querari should make natural improvement. She should go very well from her midfield draw.

ZILLA weakened tamely after surprisingly leading in her last outing on the grass but she has proven herself on tonight’s surface. She was well ridden when winning a similar event over this c & d in her penultimate outing and will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice claim. Her good draw is another plus.
