Racing this Wednesday sees an intriguing nine race programme to kick off 2021 at Happy Valley Racecourse with a host of top quality racing on offer, the top bet and value bet, should be followed closely.

RACE 1
DESTINE JEWELLERY
finished runner-up last time out and it is encouraging that Moreira has kept
faith in the ride. He will have to shoulder top weight but doesn’t take on the
strongest of fields in this opening contest. WAYFOONG CHARMER found a form return last time for Teetan. His form
at Happy Valley is slightly concerning however he has the ability to confirm
his recent improvement. VITAL SPRING
was narrowly beaten on this course last time. He ran on from far back on that
occasion and it will be no surprise to see him end up in the winner’s
enclosure.
RACE 2
WOOD ON FIRE
usually comes from the clouds when turning for home and he did just that when
reeling off his latest win over this c&d. He likes a decent pace and should
be mowing down the frontrunners in the dash to the wire once again. COURAGEOUS DRAGON is much better than
his last start suggests. He returns from a short break which may have done him
the world of good and if putting his best foot forward then he can challenge
the top selection. HERCULES should
have finished closer last time as he was reluctant to shift outside of another
horse at the 150m mark. He will have to shoulder top weight but is capable of
finding a form return and finishing in the money.
RACE 3
FEARLESS FIRE
stands out as one of the better bets on the card. He has followed up his recent
win with two decent efforts finishing just off them in the run down to the
wire. He will benefit from a 3kgs apprentice allowance in on looks nicely in at
the weights. He was only caught at the 50m mark last time out and will be
looking to make amends. FAST PACE is
better than his moderate last effort when he raced without cover. With better
luck in running he should be able to pose a threat to the top selection. EVER LAUGH found a form return last
time out at Sha Tin. He will have to shoulder top weight but has the ability to
confirm his recent improvement.
RACE 4
SAVVY NINE
finished well on this course last time in the International Jockeys Challenge.
He will jump from an inside barrier and should take a power of beating if
putting his best foot forward. RELIABLE
TEAM was pushed to set the pace last time and cut throats with another
horse up front. He was only passed in the latter stages which is very encouraging
and may well adopt similar tactics in this Grade 3 contest. GLORIOUS DRAGON is much better than his
last start suggests. He didn’t settle in the race on that occasion, however,
Purton has kept faith in the ride and it will be no surprise to see him find a
swift return to form.
RACE 5
SHINING ON brings
ultra-consistent form into this contest. He was only beaten by 1.5 lengths in
his last outing and is already looking for his third win since returning from a
layoff. He beat a subsequent winner in his penultimate outing and looks a
leading contender in this line-up. A
SMILE LIKE YOURS is still very
lightly raced and relatively unexposed. He wasn’t disgraced last time out but
the form of his debut effort suggests that he’ll land up in the winner’s
enclosure soon. TELECOM PUMA finished close-up in his last
outing and if overcoming his wide draw without using too much energy then he
should be right there at the business end.
RACE 6
FABULOUS EIGHT
finished 2.25 lengths behind FLYING
GENIUS last time out. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights which should
be enough to turn the tables. SAUL’S
SPECIAL finished two lengths behind FLYING
GENIUS in his last start. He is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights and
may have to settle for the same result.
RACE 7
MALDIVES finished
powerfully in his last start. He is drawn best of all and if repeating that
type of effort then he will take a power of beating. V CHEVALIERS backed up his favourite status last time to win by
half a length. He has won three of his last five races and must be seriously
considered. REGENCY MASTER shoulders
top weight but he has hasn’t finished far off the winner in his last three
outings and looks fairly handicapped once again.
RACE 8
KA YING MASTER is
already a two-time winner this campaign. He is a sort that shows plenty of pace
and may be difficult to peg back in the run down to the wire. HALL OF CHAMP is much better than his
moderate last start suggests. His form prior to that outing is attractive and
it will be no surprise to see him find a slick return to form. FIRST RESPONDER was only beaten by a
neck last time out at Sha Tin. He shoulders a handy galloping weight and if
repeating that type of effort then he can run into the money.
RACE 9
LONDON HALL
represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits. He followed up
his recent win well with a decent third-place finish. Badel, unfortunately, dropped the whip where it matters most which makes the effort that much more
encouraging. He is drawn in gate 2 and his rider will be looking to do
everything right this time around. MURRAY’S
PARTNERS is in search of a hat-trick of wins. He won his latest by the
narrowest of margins but performs really well under Teetan and the pair must be
respected. EASY GO EASY WIN has
finished third in his last two outings. He will benefit from a 3kgs claiming
apprentice and can make his presence felt in the lucky last.
