RACE 1
LITTLE THUNDER has finished runner-up in his last two outings and is nearing a second-career triumph. He will have to shoulder top weight but should be up to the task at hand. FLYING MONKEY returns from a short 35-day break. He shoulders a light weight and has each-way claims. JOY AVENUE won his last start and remains in Class 5. Apprentice Matthew Poon retains the ride and the pair could make it quick back-to-back wins.
RACE 2
NITRO EXPRESS is a sort that likes to come from off the pace. He is drawn wide, is likely to settle at the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners in the dash to the wire. TAILOR MADE has finished runner-up in his last two starts. He is tough to oppose on form and from pole position, should throw out a challenge to the top selection. VIRTUS STAR reeled off a hat-trick in this Class in Oct/Nov of last year. He is drawn wide but if putting his best foot forward, can run into the money.
RACE 3
DREAM WARRIORS was only beaten just under a length last time out. His last win came under Teetan and the pair will be knocking on the door once again. SAVVY KINGDOM is still on the upgrade and is showing good signs of nearing that elusive first career triumph. OWNERS’ STAR was only beaten a couple of lengths by Nunchuks last time out. He won’t need to improve much on that run to be a leading contender and could be the one to cause the upset.
RACE 4
HARMONY FIRE and CANTSTOPTHEFEELING renew their recent rivalry. Both horses are still on the upgrade and it will be intriguing to see which one has more scope for improvement. It must be noted that CANTSTOPTHEFEELING is 2kgs better off at the weights and could turn the tables on his recent conqueror. VICTORY IN HAND has found one better in his last two starts. He will benefit from a 3kgs apprentice allowance and looks fairly handicapped in this contest.
RACE 5
SPRINT FORWARD is the class horse in the race and will get a relief in the weights courtesy of his 3kgs claiming apprentice. He is drawn wide but should get across without using up too much energy and if repeating his last run, should take a power of beating. WHISKEY NEAT is a type that moves up with purpose and doesn’t quite go on with the effort. Still on form, he must be considered. FIRE BALL wasn’t disgraced in his last start when only beaten 1.5 lengths at the wire. His prior form is attractive and he should bounce back to his best.
RACE 6
V CHEVALIERS is much better than his below par last effort when beaten 1.5 lengths. His prior form is appealing and from his neat barrier position, can make his presence felt. THUNDER STOMP has placed in his last two outings. He was only beaten by 0.6 lengths last time out and shoulders only just 1kg more. PLIKCLONE has placed in both his runs after a layoff. He has won two of his last five starts and is always thereabouts.
RACE 7
SHOUSON represents decent value for Hong Kong racing pundits. He finished strongly last time to get up where it matters most under this apprentice. He is well drawn and is a four-time winner on this course. DAILY BEAUTY is in search of a hat-trick of wins. He has struck up a decent partnership with Moreira and shoulders a handy galloping weight in this contest. HIGH RISE SOLDIER finished a neck behind the top selection last time out. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights and could turn the tables on his recent conqueror.
RACE 8
STOCK LEGEND has won three of his last four starts. He steps up to Class 3 for the first time which is a difficult task but his recent form is hard to ignore. WOOD ON FIRE fought hard to win his last start on this course. He shoulders a light galloping weight, has a talented rider in the saddle and will be doing his best work late. STANLEY PARK is the likely pacesetter in the race. He will benefit from a 3kgs claiming apprentice and may be tough to peg back in the closing stages.
RACE 9
WEALTHY DELIGHT is the best bet on the card. He backed up his favourite status in fine style last time out when winning by half a length on this course. It is encouraging that Purton has kept faith in the ride and the pair should take a power of beating in the lucky last. FAST PACE brings ultra-consistent form into the race. He has moved up like a winner in recent attempts and has just not gone on with the effort in the closing stages. SUNNY STAR followed up his third-career triumph with a decent effort when beaten 0.8 lengths at the wire. He is drawn wide but on form is a leading contender and should be right there at the business end.
