International Racing: Kembla Grange – Tuesday 19 May 2020

International Racing: Tamworth – Monday 18 May 2020

A small seven-race programme is scheduled for Kembla Grange on Tuesday. The best bet on the card is PIONEER in Race 5. He has good recent form to his credit and does not meet the strongest line-up today. He has a good chance of getting rewarded for consistency under Travis Wolfgram.

Race 1
CONTALMAISON got back to winning ways over 900m at
Newcastle when returning from a 27-week break. Despite not having much luck up
the straight, he ran on strongly to prevail in the latter stages. He is having
a good season with a record of two wins and a second-place finish from five
starts. He is having his second run after a rest and should have more to come.
The son of Rubick is likely to race on the speed this afternoon and may be hard
to peg back in the closing stages.
HYANNIS PORT
is a filly taking on
the males. She is lightly raced and followed up her maiden win with a good
third-place finish over 1100m at Wyong. She does return from a 16-week break
this afternoon, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter
of Redoute’s Choice should not have any issues with regards to fitness as she
has had a barrier trial coming into this contest.

Race 2
PERFECT IMPRESSION has not finished too far off the winner in
her last four starts. She moved up well in her last outing over 1500m at
Hawkesbury, but was outrun in the closing stages. She has finished second twice
from three attempts over this distance. Jockey Alysha Collett does duty for the
first time today and she may be able to coax that little bit extra out of the
daughter of Hallowed Crown where it matters most. OCONEE made the expected
natural improvement when finishing second over 1500m at Hawkesbury last time.
He does make his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, should
be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. Chad Lever
retains the ride which is encouraging.

Race 3
BLACK BOLT produced a promising debut effort over this
course and distance, four weeks ago. Despite not getting off to the best of
starts, he managed to set the pace before getting run down in the latter
stages. The son of Savabeel would have gained from the experience and with the
natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one they all have to
beat. KERMANDING produced a promising debut effort when
finishing fourth over six furlongs at Canterbury Park. He settled towards the
rear of the field that day and chased hard all the way to the line. The manner
in which he finished off the race that day suggests that he will enjoy the
extra furlong on offer this afternoon. He is drawn in barrier position two
which is a big plus.

Race 4
DOCTOR MANCINI is the value bet on this afternoon’s card. He
produced an eye-catching debut effort over the minimum trip on this course. He
didn’t have things go his own way that day as he was crowded at the 800m and
also could not find running room when turning for home. However, once clear he
finished his race off strongly. The son of Wandjina would have come on from the
experience and will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. With a bit of luck in
running, he may be the one they all have to beat. BLUFF ‘N’ BLUSTER is still
a maiden after ten career starts, but he has not finished too far off the
winner in recent outings. He has finished second twice and third three times
from six attempts over this distance. Should the top selection fluff his lines,
the son of The Brothers War may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 5
PIONEER is the best bet on today’s programme. He has
good recent form lines to his credit. He moved up well in his last start over
this course and distance, but was run down in the latter stages. He is having a
good season thus far with a record of one win and four second-place finishes
from seven starts. Travis Wolfgram who has finished second on the son of Lope
De Vega in the past, steps back in the saddle today and the pair should find
themselves in the winner’s enclosure. SYBELLA is a filly taking
on the boys. She was an impressive winner on debut over this distance at
Newcastle. She does take on stronger today, but the manner in which she won
suggests that there is more to come from her. Jay Ford takes the ride aboard
the daughter of Snitzel and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 6
NINDAMOS produced a very good comeback run when
finishing second over 1100m at Canterbury Park. He should have finished closer
to the winner that day as he was held up from a run from the 250m mark to the
100m mark. He will enjoy returning to race on this track as he has won twice
from five outings. He makes his stable debut this afternoon and if settled into
his new surroundings, he should be the one they all have to beat. CATAPULT is a winner of his last two starts over the minimum distance at Goulburn
under today’s pilot Brodie Loy. The slight concern for the son of Medaglia
D’Oro is how he will handle the extra furlong this afternoon. However, he does
look to have ability and cannot be ignored.

Race 7
QINGHAI LAKE is lightly raced having just had the four
starts to date. He ran a good race when finishing runner-up over this distance
at Goulburn last time. Brandon Lerena who was aboard the son of Savabeel last
time retains the ride and the pair have a good chance of going one better
today. EXTREME JEWEL’S last two starts have been good. She settled
near the rear of the field last time and chased solidly all the way to the wire
to finish second. She is having a decent season with a record of two wins, two
seconds and one third-place finish from nine starts. Nick Heywood does duty for
the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her
where it matters most.
