International Racing: Morphettville – Saturday 11 April 2020

International Racing: Friday 10 April 2020 – Oaklawn Park.

An open looking nine-race programme is scheduled for Morphettville on Saturday. The best bet on the card is DIPLOMATIC MEASURE who runs in Race 7.

He is a three-time winner from six starts and is the form horse in the race. He gets along well with apprentice Lachlan Neindorf who looks to have a very bright future as a jockey.

Race 1
ENAAYA produced a promising debut effort when finishing runner-up over the minimum trip on this course. She was running on well at the finish but may have cost herself winning as she shifted around up the straight due to understandably racing green. The daughter of Pride of Dubai would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should go one better here. DISTILLATE is another that produced an eye-catching debut effort. She finished second over the minimum trip on this course, three weeks ago. She should have finished closer to the winner that day but was held up for a run at the 250m mark. With the natural progression that is expected, she should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 2
BRAMFIELD was rewarded for consistency when winning her last start over 1960m. She is yet to be unplaced over this distance with a record of two wins and two second-place finishes from as many starts. She gets the services of apprentice Lachlan Neindorf who will take 2kgs off her back. He has finished second on the daughter of Barbados in the past. From her good draw of three, she should be tough to beat. SASUN is a winner of his last three starts. He runs well over today’s distance having won twice, finishing second once and third on three occasions from eleven starts. If managing to continue his good run of form, he may pose the biggest threat to the top choice.

Race 3
NIGHT EXPRESS ran a very good race in her first run after 20 weeks off the track. She moved up well that day and challenged all the way to the wire. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She makes her course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, she should be the one to beat. The daughter of Fastnet Rock should strip fitter and she gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice. INTRIGUE showed good form before shedding her maiden tag last time. She stalked the leader that day and quickened well to draw clear at the 200m mark. She does take a rise in class this afternoon, but she is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. Jockey Jason Holder and trainer Tony McEvoy are a proven combination and they cannot be discounted.

Race 4
JACOBITE PRINCE showed signs of needing his last start over this course and distance. He was his own worst enemy that day as he raced keenly in the early stages of the race. The son of Choisir should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and he could get back to winning ways under a 2kg claiming apprentice. GOUGERS has not finished too far off the winner in his last three starts. He has a good record over this distance with two wins and a second-place finish from five attempts. He gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 5
NASEEB was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over ten furlongs by six lengths. He was keen early, but the manner in which he kicked at the top of the lane was eye-catching. He will enjoy the drop back in distance as he has won five times and finished second once from nine attempts over the trip. He gets the services of a claiming apprentice today and should notch up his ninth career victory. ROSELLI STING has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He stayed on well at the business end of his last start and it must be noted that the form of that run has been franked. Todd Pannell retains the ride this afternoon and should the top selection fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 6
BELLA VELLA was an impressive winner when returning from a 15-week break last time. She showed no signs of needing that outing and drew off well for the victory. She won her only attempt on this course and her record over this distance is good with six wins, three seconds and a third-place finish from fourteen attempts. Todd Pannell knows the daughter of Commands well and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. BEAUTY has good recent form to her credit. She has won once and finished second once in as many starts on this course. She drops to the minimum trip for the first time and if this distance is not on the sharp side for her, she should throw out a big challenge to the top selection. Jockey Barend Vorster and trainer Tony McEvoy have a good 30%-win strike rate together.

Race 7
DIPLOMATIC MEASURE is the best bet on today’s card. He is a lightly raced son of Eurozone from the Tony McEvoy stable. He has raced over today’s distance in all six of his outings having won three times and placed second once. Apprentice Lachlan Neindorf knows him well and the pair should be hard to beat in this line-up. He is unbeaten from two starts when jumping as favourite. PERFECT COMMAND ran a creditable fourth last time after winning two races in a row. He has a good record over this course and distance having won twice and finishing second once from as many outings. Should the top selection fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 8
NON PAEAR has not finished too far behind the winner in her last four starts. She set the pace in her last outing over six furlongs but ran out of puff in the final 100m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She will enjoy dropping back to the minimum trip as four of her five career wins have come over this distance. She does have a wide draw to contend with, but she should use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. SEEMINGLY DISCREET is a winner of her last two starts over six furlongs. She raced from a handy position last time and got up where it matters most. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The drop to the minimum trip is no concern as she finished third in her only attempt over the distance. She should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 9
SACRED WALK ran a good race over 1300m on this course last time. She moved up well that day, but the winner was just too strong. She has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. Jason Holder knows the daughter of Pins well and the pair merit healthy respect. LADY BETHANY has produced three good runs since given a 17-week break. Her last run when finishing third was good. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won twice and finished third once in as many outings on this course. If continuing her good run of form, she may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.
