International Racing: Pinjarra Park – Sunday 26 April 2020

A very competitive nine-race programme is scheduled for Pinjarra Park on Sunday.

The best bet is SAMSURIAN who runs in Race 1. He made the natural improvement in his last start to finish second over 1100m. He meets the right field today and looks very tough to beat.

Race 1
SAMSURIAN made the natural improvement when finishing second over 1100m at Ascot last time. He raced from a handy position that day and tried hard all the way to the winning post. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Shaun Mc Gruddy does duty this afternoon and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. GHOBELLA is a filly taking on the boys. She produced a promising debut effort when finishing second over this course and distance. The daughter of Blackfriars would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 2
STELLA DOOR has finished runner-up in his last two starts over the minimum distance at Ascot. He moved up like a winner in his last start but was caught in the shadow of the post. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He makes his course debut this afternoon and gets the winkers fitted for the first time. If the headgear has the desired effect, he should be rewarded for consistency. The son of Universal Ruler is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. RUN D’AFFAIRE RUN made the natural improvement in his first run after 12 weeks off the track. He still showed signs of needing that run as he lacked a finish in the closing stages. He should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and is one of the leading contenders for the placings.

Race 3
FREQUENT FRIAR made the expected natural improvement in his last start over a mile on this course. He should have finished much closer to the winner that day as he was held up for a run until the 150m mark. William Pike has an encouraging 28%-win strike rate for this trainer. With a bit of luck in running, he should be the one they all have to beat. REDMILL went way too fast upfront in his last start and faded badly up the straight. He produced some very good form prior to that outing. He has finished second twice and third three times from six outings on this course. If switching off early, he may be the one to pose the biggest threat to the top selection.

Race 4
JAKESTAR has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has had a decent season thus far having finished second three times and third on three occasions from seven starts. He does have a wide draw to contend with today, but he should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. William Pike steps back into the saddle and the pair should be tough to beat. KING CRUZER produced a promising debut effort when fourth over the minimum trip at Ascot. He should have finished closer that day as he was held up for a run until the 150m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 5
PLAYING RED was disappointing in her last start after winning on impressively on debut. She did race three wide without cover around the turn, which didn’t help her chances. It is encouraging that jockey William Pike retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, she should get back to winning ways. BLAZING BILLY made the expected natural improvement to shed his maiden tag over this course and distance in his last start. He does take on stronger opposition today, but he is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. Alan Kennedy does duty once again and the pair should be right there at the finish.

Race 6
PORPHYRIO got back to winning ways in her last start over 1500m on this course. She was in the box seat turning for home and charged clear at the 200m mark. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. Mitchell Pateman does duty and she should have a good chance of following up. PATY’S FORCAST has decent recent form to her name. She ran a good race last time considering that she turned for home six wide. It must be noted that the form of her last race has been franked. If repeating her penultimate run when winning over this course and distance, she should pose a threat to the top choice.

Race 7
ABERDEEN QUEEN was an impressive maiden winner of her last start over this course and distance. She ran on well that day and despite hanging in the straight, she drew off for the victory. It must be noted that three horses from that form line have come out and won since. She does take on stronger opposition today, but the manner in which she won last time suggests she has class about her. AVALON BAY produced a very good comeback run when returning from a 22-week break. He won his only attempt over this course and distance. The son of Ocean Park should strip much fitter this afternoon and he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 8
AMILLIONITE produced a very good comeback run when finishing second over six furlongs at Bunbury. It must be noted that two horses from that form line have come out and won since. She has a decent record on this course having finished second three times and third once from five outings. Clint Johnston-Porter retains the ride and the pair should go one better today. FIRESALE’S last two starts have been fair. He has won once and finished second once from four starts over this course and distance. Mitchell Pateman does duty once again and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 9
RESISTANCE is the value bet on today’s card. She has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She ran on strongly in her last start over a mile at Ascot. The drop in distance is no concern as she has placed over the trip in the past and from her good draw of two, she should be the one to cause the upset. I’M PRETTY’S last two starts have been very good. She has a good record over this course and distance having won once and finished second twice from four starts. William Pike has ridden this daughter of Dash For Cash seven times for three wins, a second and two third-place finishes. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
