Race 6
A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this the first leg of the Jackpot and complete the exacta. SANGRIA was a little disappointing when finishing sixth in her last start over 1100M, but that was in heavy going and she should do better on good going. She has won her subsequent barrier trial and although drawn wideish at gate eight, she could be the one to side with here. BOTHERED has won three on the bounce, the latest over 1100M by just under a length. She jumped awkwardly that day but recovered well to win going away. She gets to start from gate three and looks the immediate danger to the top choice. BLACK MAGNUM finished fourth last time out over this distance and will get the blinkers re-fitted today. He will also have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and starts from draw six. PLONKA is drawn one inside the latter and returns from a 21-week rest, but he did finish second in his only barrier trial to prove his well-being. He drops in distance from finishing third over seven furlongs last time out before the break, but may well do better as a result
Race 7
OVERLORD returns from a 12-week rest but has put in two encouraging barrier trials. He finished fourth in his last outing over this distance, but he had finished second in the two runs prior to that. He has cracked pole position which he is sure to put to good use. ACHIEVER also returns from a 12-week break but has had the two barrier trials. He showed good improvement to win his last start over seven furlongs by over three lengths before the rest and if he is able to confirm that effort here, he should be right up there in the mix, jumping from gate seven. HOLYFIELD did not go on with his effort when disappointing last time out over 1300M, but that was his first run since a 17-week rest. He is drawn one outside the latter and had won over this trip three runs back. He should be included in all bets.
Race 8
MUGATOO finished strongly to win his last start over 1500M and should have no issue with stepping up to the 1900M today. He has subsequently won a barrier trial to confirm his well-being and from a handy draw three, he is taken to be the best bet on today’s card. SIKANDARABAD made good late progress to win his last outing over a mile by two lengths. He steps up in trip, but on that last effort, it would appear that his is well within his grasp. He could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick. TAIKOMOCHI won his last start over nine furlongs by just under a length. He likes to race up with the pace and could prove difficult to reel in over the latter stages of the contest.
Race 9
PRIME CANDIDATE attracted plenty of betting support when only outrun very late to end up in third place last time out over 1300M at this venue, 0.7L off the victor. He has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and despite having to deal with a wideish gate eight, he looks to be the value in the race. SUBPOENAED is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and has her first run since a 13-week rest. She has however had two barrier trials, winning the first. She was bumped at the 700M mark before finishing third in her last outing over 1350M and should give the males a good run for their money. WANDABAA is also a 4yr old filly. She jumped awkwardly before being taken to the front and holding off all changers to win by three and a half lengths. She starts from gate six and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.
