Jockeys ride horses

Racing heads to Sha Tin on Sunday and there is an exciting ten race programme. The meeting includes The Hong Kong Classic Cup which is over 1800m.

GOLDEN SIXTY looks like he will be hard to beat having won eight out of his nine career starts to date. Jockey Joao Moreira has pulled 12 winners clear of Zac Purton in the Jockeys Championship race and with a full book of rides, he will be looking to increase his lead.

Best Bet: MONICA (Race 10)

Race 1
ALL THE BEST FRIENDS has fair recent form to his credit. He didn’t have much luck having to overcome a wide draw last time and unfortunately raced wide. The son of Street Cry takes a drop in class this afternoon and from a good draw, he may be the one to beat. GENERAL TRUMP just got up to win his last start over this course and distance. A repeat of that run will see him pose a threat to the top choice.

Race 2
MISSION START has had no luck in running in both his runs to date. He got an awkward start and didn’t have a clear passage up the straight. Zac Purton does duty for the first time this afternoon and with a bit of luck in running, he should be the one to catch. FUN TIMES has fair form to his name. He should have finished closer in his last start as he didn’t have much luck in the straight. If Chad Schofield can overcome his wide draw, he may be involved in the finish.

Race 3
HERO STAR has produced three decent efforts thus far. He didn’t get the best of starts last time but boxed on well at the business end. He has a handy draw this afternoon and could be the one to cause the upset. TEAM POWER was unlucky not to have won on debut over this course and distance. He was blocked from the 400m mark but rallied well late on in the race. The slight concern for him is that he has a wide draw to overcome.

Race 4
LONDON HALL has decent recent form to his name. He was running on well in his last start over the nine furlongs at Happy Valley. He has finished third in both of his runs over this distance and from pole position, he could give Joao Moreira a win to add to his tally. ABOVE didn’t settle in his last start over this course and distance. If Hugh Bowman can manage to switch him off early, he may pose a big threat.

Race 5
GOOD BEAUTY showed good signs of a form return in his last start over the six furlongs. He has been drawn wide in his last two starts and from pole position today, he can get back to winning ways. VICTORIAM finished runner-up over this distance at Happy Valley last time. It is encouraging that Joao Moreira retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 6
JUNEAU PARK had to race three-wide in his last start over the six furlongs on this course. He tries the seven furlongs for the first time and the manner in which he finished off his race last time suggests that the extra trip should be right up his alley. Moreira is back in the saddle this afternoon and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. KING DRAGON has come well in his last two starts and merits healthy respect despite his wide draw.

Race 7
GOLDEN SIXTY has won eight of his nine career starts to date. He tries the nine furlongs for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance, he can notch up his ninth career victory. Jockey Vincent Ho has been aboard him in all of his runs to date. MORE THAN THIS should have finished closer to the top choice last time as he was hampered at the 100m mark. With a bit of luck in running, he may pose another threat.

Race 8
GLORIOUS DRAGON didn’t shape in a Group 1 race last time and takes a drop in class this afternoon. He produced top form prior to that and with Ryan Moore in the saddle, he may get back to winning ways. CHEFANO finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time and may have to settle for the same result today. Visiting jockey Hugh Bowman rides for the first time and the pair can run into the money.

Race 9
GAMEPLAYER TIMES makes his Hong Kong debut this afternoon. He was a three-time winner in Brazil with two of those wins being Group 1’s. If he has settled into his new surroundings, he could be the one to beat on his local debut. SEATTTLE CHOICE showed good improvement in his last start over this course and distance. If repeating that run, he should pose a threat to the top choice.

Race 10
MONICA is the best bet on the card. He was bumped at the start last time, but took the lead at the 350m mark and cruised to victory. If repeating that effort, he can notch up the double. SUPER ELEGANCE finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time but should have finished closer. He was blocked at the 400m mark and ran on well. With a bit of luck in running, he should finish closer to the top one.
