International Racing: Thursday 23 April 2020 – Bunbury

International Racing: Wednesday 22 April 2020 – Ascot

An open looking eight-race programme is scheduled for Bunbury on Thursday. The best bet comes in Race 3 in the form of AGENT JAY who has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He does not meet the strongest of opposition today and should shed his maiden tag.

Race 1
WHO’S A PRETTY GAL has finished runner-up in her last two starts, the latest of which was over a similar distance on this course. She moved up very well that day, but the winner was just too strong in the closing stages. The daughter of Galah gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. ATLANTIC RULER’S last two starts have been fair after producing a promising debut effort over six furlongs at Albany. She tries the distance for the first time and if getting an uncontested lead, she may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. Clint Johnston-Porter retains the ride which is encouraging.

Race 2
MY BLUEBOY has very good recent form to his credit. He set the pace in his last start, but was overhauled in the latter stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has finished second twice and third twice from five attempts over this distance and gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon, which should help his cause. He is likely to set the pace once again and should be hard to peg back in the closing stages. JOLLY ODD is a filly taking on the males. She produced some decent form before that 20-week which would have done her the world of good. If fit and well, she could be the one to pick up the pieces should the top selection fluff his lines.

Race 3
AGENT JAY has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He tired late in his last start over seven furlongs and will enjoy the drop back in distance today. It must be noted that two horses from his last form line have come out and won since. Jockey Shaun Mc Gruddy has finished third on both occasions he has ridden this son of Snippetson and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure this afternoon. PALAVER was a tad disappointing in his last start over six furlongs. He raced handy that day, but lacked a strong finish up the straight. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. On best form shown, he could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 4
MISS MERIT has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She was her own worst enemy in her last start as she did not settle. She gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon which should help her cause. The drop to the minimum trip should suit her well and she may take a power of beating. MADRID CENTRO’S last two starts have been decent. She was keen around the turn in her last start over six furlongs. She should enjoy the drop back to the minimum distance and in this type of field, she should be one of the leading contenders for the placings.

Race 5
TWISTED MOUNTAIN is an old campaigner who has fair recent form to his credit. He has won three times, finished second three times and third on three occasions over this distance. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. Natasha Faithfull takes the ride this afternoon and the pair could be the ones to cause the upset. ANGELIQUE’S FAME won her last start over six furlongs on this course. She raced from a mid-field position that day and got up in the shadow of the post. If repeating that effort this afternoon, she could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 6
JEBDIAH produced a very good comeback run when returning from a 31-week break last time. He raced from a mid-field position that day and ran on strongly up the straight. It is also notable that has finished second twice from three attempts over this distance. The son of Slater should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and he has a good chance of going one better. THE CHORISTER produced some good form before given a 25-week break. He has won twice, finished second three times and third on four occasions from seventeen starts over this distance. He should have no concerns with regards to fitness as he has had a barrier trial coming into this race. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 7
GOLDEN ARCHES has produced two very good runs since returning from a 24-week break. He stayed on very well at the finish of his last start over 1500m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The drop in distance is no concern as he has won once and finished third once from four starts. He gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice and should be tough to beat. ROUTE EIGHTY EIGHT ran a very good race over the minimum trip at Ascot last time. She has produced some good form this season having won once, finishing second twice and third once from six outings. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. The daughter of Written Tycoon should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

Race 8
POMME is lightly raced and she has some good recent form to her credit. She ran a very good race at Albany when staying on well at the finish over 1900m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She tries the distance for the first time and the manner in which she finished off her last race suggests that this should be right up her alley. Jordan Turner retains the ride and the combination should be hard to beat. CAPTAIN JACK got back to winning ways in his last start over a mile on this course. He steps back up in distance this afternoon and runs well for jockey Lucy Warwick. The son of Vital Equine may be one of the leading contenders for the placings.
