International Racing: Thursday 30 April 2020 – Pakenham

International Racing: Wednesday 29 April 2020 – Ascot

A modest card of 8 races makes up the programme at Pakenham this Thursday 30th April, but there are plenty of opportunities to find some value. DANCE READY looks well set up to win the 6th race and he should relish the step up to the mile. With scope for more improvement he should be very tough to beat, and he earns himself the ‘best bet’ tag.  MRS BIGNELL should be some decent value worth following in the 6th race. She also steps up in trip and with her record over the 1400m, she must be considered. See more here.

Race 1 – 09:00 –
1000m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 4 – 6 – 3
– 7 – 8
OUR MUSKETEER has
finished 2nd in his last two starts with his latest effort coming
over this course and distance. The son of Danerich has only had the four starts
so far and he looks progressive enough to get the better of this modest field
of maidens. Clayton Douglas takes the mount and they look tough to beat in the
opener. TELEKINESIS has shown up
well since returning to racing two starts back and the 3-year old son of Rubick
will have his peak run here. He will be hoping for firmer gong this time around
and with the expected improvement, he should be involved in the finish. NOBLE CLASS has his debut on the back of a good trial recently. With the
speed he showed in that workout, he must be considered first up.
Race 2 – 09:30 –
1200m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 2 – 4 – 3
– 1 – 6
VLADKING sat
behind the leaders and was game in defeat last time out, when having his second
start in a row over this trip. That was after a smart performance in his
penultimate start, when running on late for just a 0,6-length defeat. He finds
conditions to suit here and with Ben Thompson back aboard the son Danesis, he
should go very close to winning at just the 7th time of asking. DEPONENT ran on nicely for second in
his follow up effort after a modest debut. He retains the services of Matthew
Allen here and with plenty of scope for improvement he cannot be discounted. BLACKTOWN has his course debut here and
the son of Stryker has found enough early betting support to suggest his
conditioner expects a big effort here and he must be respected.
Race 3 – 10:00 –
1400m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 6 – 9 – 2
– 1 – 8
PARIS PIKE
enjoyed stepping up to this trip last time out and he would’ve freshened up
nicely since that outing back in February. The lightly raced son of Uncle Mo
has been knocking on the door in his three starts so far and with the expected
improvement he should be right there at the business end. MISSALURE is a 3-year old filly who lines up for her fifth start
and she deserves plenty of respect on the back of a good performance over this
course and distance last time out. That was from a wide draw against her own sex
and she finds a much-improved barrier for this test against the boys. If
showing the same turn of foot she displayed on that occasion, she should run
herself into contention here and must be considered a big factor. RIPPA CHOICE has his third career start
after two fair performances towards the end of last year. He was gaining late
when stepping up to the 1400m in his last start and if not too in need of the
run, he could he a threat.
Race 4 – 10:30 –
1600m – Maiden Plate
Selections:  5 – 8 – 1 – 6 – 3
DANCE READY
enjoyed stepping back up to the 1400m last time out, when having his third run
back after a rest. Having gone forward to contend for the lead in the early
stages, he did well to hold on for second and the 3-year old son of More Than
Ready will relish the extra 200m here. Clayton Douglas regains the ride and
they should be very tough to beat. ROYAL
ADMIRAL
has only had the three starts so far and he clearly needed that
comeback run last time out, when returning from a 6-month absence. Mark Zahra
retains the ride and the extra furlong should suit if the son of Zoustar isn’t
too in need of the run. LUCAS THE
YOUNGER
was modest on his return to racing last time out and he too
would’ve needed the outing. That trip was probably short of his best and he
will be a lot more competitive over this sort of trip. With scope for
improvement, he must be included.
Race 5 – 11:00 –
1600m – BM64 Handicap
Selections:  4 – 3 – 6 – 9 – 2
POSSESION bids
for his hat-trick after two smart victories over this trip and with just the 4
starts under his belt, he should have plenty more to come. He lands a plum draw
once again and with plenty more scope for improvement, he will be looking to
build on that latest effort when surging to the lead effortlessly to win. Billy
Egan retains the ride and he looks tough to oppose. DEELBRAKA was impressive when winning on his return to racing last
time out, after a 5-month absence. He’ll strip fitter this time and now that he
steps up to his preferred trip, the son of Dundeel should be one of the leading
contenders at the business end. INFLUENTIAL
GIRL
and BUMRAH both have the
credentials to make their presence felt but will need to find their best form
to topple the top two selections.
Race 6 – 11:30 –
1400m – BM64 Handicap (3YO and Up)
Selections: 3 – 6 – 4
– 5 – 7
MRS BIGNELL is
starting to show signs of a big performance after returning to racing three
starts back. That was after a 6-month lay-off from competitive racing. The
7-year old daughter of God’s Own now steps up to a trip where she has been very
effective over the years, notching up two wins and three places from nine
attempts. From a plum draw, she gets the services of Beau Mertens and she must
be considered a major contender in an open race. OFFICE JIM picked up his maiden victory last time out in his first
outing at this course. He now rises into handicap conditions and steps up to
the 1400m for his second run after a rest. Mark Zahra sticks with the ride and
they must be included with a record of a win and four places from just the six
outings. CURLY BURGIN moved up like
a winner last time out and looked as if he would just about win before being
overhauled in the closing stages. The slight drop back in trip should suit and
he too should be one of the leading contenders here.
Race 7 – 12:00 –
1200m – BM64 Handicap (3YO and Up)
Selections: 10 – 5 –
7 – 8 – 9
KOOTARA has been
in smart form so far this year and the 4-year old mare seems to be building up
a nice relationship with jockey Beau Mertens who retains the ride. She hit the
line hard in her latest effort over this course and distance for an
eye-catching third and a repeat of that effort should place her right in
contention here. SO SKILLED has
placed in his last two starts over this course and distance in tricky
conditions and he will be looking to convert his recent form into a win this
time. Joe Bowditch retains the ride having ridden him in both runs and he must
be considered a threat once again. GRAND
DIAMOND
weakened in the closing stages last time out, but still managed to
finish just 3,8-lengths behind the winner. The 3-year old daughter of Wandjina
still has plenty of scope for improvement with just the 7 starts under her belt
and she deserves respect here.
Race 8 – 12:30 –
1200m – Class 1 Handicap (3YO and Up)
Selections: 2 – 8 – 3
– 7 – 9

HOT REWARD followed
up that maiden win in his penultimate start with an eye-catching effort on his
handicap debut last time out. The son of Reward For Effort unleashed a big challenge
late to finish second and with this being his peak run after a rest, he should
be cherry ripe for this and should just about win. MARCADA gave a solid account of herself in feature company last
time out, when flashing home late for just a 3,7-length defeat. She drops
slightly in trip this time and that may raise a few question marks, but she is
certainly good enough to go into contention. NO CHANGE is another contender who drops in class after a feature
attempt last time out. Having featured before over this trip, he will be
looking to recapture some of that form here and the son of Reward For Effort
should be worth including.
