International Racing: Tuesday 07 April 2020 – Will Rogers Downs (Dirt)

International Racing: Monday 05 April 2020 – Ballarat

For the second consecutive day, racing takes place at Will Rogers Downs. A ten-race programme is scheduled and there are a few short-priced favourites that look hard to beat. The best bet on the card is MILTONTOWN in Race 5.  He won his last start well under today’s jockey, Ty Kennedy, and the pair should notch up a quick double

Race 1
TOPOGIO has shown some improvement in his last two
starts, the latest of which was on this course. He raced four wide last time
but managed to finish off his race well. Curtis Kimes has ridden the son of Gio
Ponti in the past and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. WORLD was well-beaten into third in his last start over a mile. He has placed
once from two starts over today’s distance. With this being his first run on
this course and if suited to the track, he should be the one to throw out the biggest
challenge to the top selection.

Race 2
CASH KITTEN is the value bet on today’s card. He returned
to best form last time when winning over this course and distance. He swung for
home four wide that day and under a driving ride, managed to get the victory.
He runs well on this course with a record of three wins, three seconds and a
third-place finish from nine outings. If confirming his recent return to form,
he should be the one they all have to beat. CONSUMERCONFIDENCE has
fair recent form to his credit. He has been racing handy over longer distances
recently and seems to lack extra up the straight. The drop in trip should suit
and with Ty Kennedy doing duty, he should be the one to throw out the biggest
challenge to the top selection.
Race 3
OWEN THE GREAT has produced fair form since winning his
maiden race. He was slow into stride last time, raced five wide, but tried hard
all the way to the finishing post. He has won once and finished third once from
four starts on this course. Benny Landeros retains the ride and the pair should
find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. ALOO GHOST has not finished
too far behind the winner in recent outings. He rallied well in his last start
over this distance, but it was a little too late. David Cabrera knows him well
and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 4
The raced horses in
this race have moderate form and the first two finishing positions may be
filled by unraced horses. The betting market will be the best guide in this
race. FROGGY is an unraced son of Euroears from the Todd
Sneed stable. He has put up some decent breeze-ups coming into this race and
with Benny Landeros in the saddle, he should be right there in the run down to
the wire. BUG ZAPPER is an unraced son of Latent Heat from the
Scott Garrison stable with Ry Eikleberry up. He put up a good time in his
latest breeze-up and on that, should pose a threat to the top selection.

Race 5
MILTONTOWN is the best bet on today’s card. He raced
from a handy position last time, took the lead at the top of the straight and
never looked like getting beat. That was his first race on this course. Ty
Kennedy retains the ride this afternoon and the pair should notch up the
double. TARUCA finished 0.5 lengths behind the top selection
in his last outing. He moved up to win the race that day, but the top
selection just had too much fire power.
He has had three runs this year for a win and two second place finishes. On
that record, he merits healthy respect.
Race 6
CHAMPAGNE’S ON ICE showed good signs of returning to best form
in his last start over six furlongs on this course. He challenged strongly all
the way to the line that day but was denied victory by just half a length. Ty
Kennedy retains the ride this afternoon and the pair should go one better here.
GO FOR JIM’S last two starts have been fair. He raced from
a handy position last time but faltered up the straight and should have
finished closer as a result. He makes his course debut this afternoon and if
suited to the track, he should be one of the leading contenders for the
placings.
Race 7
HOLLYWOOD SQUARE’S last two starts have been fair. He moved up
like a winner over 1300m in his latest but lacked extra where it mattered most.
His record over today’s distance is good with two wins and a third-place finish
from four attempts. Ry Eikleberry is riding well at the moment and the pair
should be hard to peg back in the closing stages. SHABOXXO was rewarded for
consistency when winning his last start over 1300m. Rico Flores knows the son
of Ice Box well and should the top selection fluff his lines, the pair may be
the ones to pick up the pieces.
Race 8
IM THE MAN NOW has shown good improvement with each of his
outings to date. He set the pace in his last start, but weakened in the closing
stages. He has a much better draw this afternoon and may be hard to peg back in
the run down to the finishing post. His regular pilot Alberto Pusac does duty
and he will know exactly how to get the best out of this son of National Saint. JUSTINS OMEN finished 1.5 lengths behind the top selection in his last start. He raced
three wide that day, but finished his race off well. He has a much better draw
this afternoon and should finish much closer to the former.

Race 9
NERO has good consistent formlines to his credit.
He did it the hard way last time by racing three wide from a handy position.
However, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He is
making his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he should be
the one they all have to beat.
MINISTER OF SOUL
was a comfortable
six length winner of his last start over 1100m. He is yet to be unplaced over
this distance with three wins, two seconds and a third-place finish. Glenn
Corbett knows him well and the pair should throw out a big challenge to the top
selection.

Race 10

ROCKY BOY INDIAN ran a good race last time considering he
received a bump coming out the pens. He runs well over today’s distance with a
record of a win, a second and a third-place finish from five attempts. Ty
Kennedy does duty this afternoon and he may be able to coax that little bit
extra out of him. ROYAL CREED was an easy winner of his last start over
this distance. He showed plenty of speed that day and cruised to victory. If
repeating that effort here, he should pose as a big threat to the top
selection.
