International Racing: Tuesday 5 May 2020 – Rockhampton

International Racing: Tuesday 5 May 2020 – Warrnambool

An eight-race programme is scheduled for Rockhampton on Tuesday. It is a very competitive card, but there is some nice value in a few races and money can be made. The best bet comes in Race 2 in the form of PLANET WARRIOR who’s last three starts have been very good and he won his only attempt on this course. Stanley Watkin knows him well and the pair should be tough to beat.

Race 1
This is a weak maiden field and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is BROOKE’S GIRL from the Fred Smith stable with apprentice Elyce Smith in the saddle. She showed good improvement when finishing second over 1100m on this course in her last start. If repeating that effort in this type of company, she may be the one they all have to beat. SCARAMOUCHE is still a maiden after 22 runs, but has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. There are not too many other horses with decent form so on best form shown, she should be right up there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 2
PLANET WARRIOR was a narrowly beaten favourite in his last start over a similar distance at Mackay. He runs well over this trip having won once, finished second once and third once from five attempts. The son of So You Think won his only attempt over this distance. Stanley Watkin who has won on him once and finished second on him once from as many starts, does duty and the pair should be hard to beat today. CHINCHINBELLA’S last three starts have been very good, the last two of which were on this course. Apprentice Dakota Graham knows him well as he has won twice and finished second once from as many starts aboard the son of Golden Archer. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 3
ONLY WANNA SING was an impressive winner of his last two starts. He is having a good season thus far having won three times, finishing second once and third once from nine outings. The son of Your Song is unbeaten from two starts on this course and has a very good chance of notching up the hat-trick today. ATTIQUE is a filly taking on the males and she has good recent form to her name. She has won four times, finished second three times and third twice from sixteen outings on this course. Jockey Brad Pengelly does duty this afternoon and he has an encouraging 33%-win strike rate for this trainer. The daughter of Top Echelon should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 4
AZIOC is the value bet on today’s card. Her last effort can be completely ignored as her saddle slipped at the start that day which means the jockey was unable to fully assist her. She produced two good runs in her first two career starts. The daughter of Americain gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and the headgear should keep her mind on the task at hand. With a bit of luck in running, she may be the one they all have to beat. DIP DYE has finished second in her last two starts on this course. Tasha Graham steps back into the saddle today which is encouraging. The daughter of Sepoy has a wide barrier position to contend with, but she should use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 5
POETIC HEART was a comfortable winner of his last two starts under today’s apprentice Elyce Smith. The son of Show A Heart has won twice and finished second once in four outings over this course and distance. From his good barrier position of two, he has a good chance of notching up the hat-trick of wins. ELLE A WALKING has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won twice, finished second three times and third three times from thirteen attempts over this distance. The son of Tickets gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 6
SWEET SURPRISE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1300m at Mackay. She is better than that effort as her record shows. The daughter of Zizou has won twice and finished second twice in as many starts over this course and distance. 3kg claiming apprentice Emma Bell knows her well and the pair have a good chance of getting back to winning ways this afternoon. THE BAKER is returning from a well-deserved 22-week break today. He has won four times, finished second twice and third once from eleven attempts over this distance. He has won twice from six starts when having his first run after a break and the son of Charge Forward must be included in all bets.

Race 7
BOSS BABY was an impressive winner when putting four lengths between herself and the second-place finisher over 1050m on this course. She is having a good season so far with a record of two wins, two seconds and a third-place finish from eight outings. She looks to have some class about her and can notch up her fourth career victory. HEZHOME is a five-time winner from ten career starts. All of his victories have come on this course. Jockey Ashely Butler has a good 33%-win strike rate for this trainer. From pole position, the son of Better Than Ready looks to be the one that will throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 8
HEYGERONIMO has decent recent form lines to his credit. He finished fourth in his last start when staying on well up the straight over seven furlongs. It must be noted that two horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Ready Royal has won once and finished second once from as many attempts over this distance. From pole position, he may be the one to side with here. WIDE LOAD has produced two decent efforts since shedding his maiden tag. He moved up like a winner in his last start, but was swamped in the final 100m. It must be noted that the form line of that race has worked out well. He has won once, finished second twice and third once in his five career starts to date. Should the top selection fluff his lines, the son of Kaphero may be the one to pick up the pieces.
