Neil Morrice Best Bets & Tips

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Saturday’s racing coming your way from Newmarket, Newcastle, Redcar, and Lingfield Park.

Newmarket

Race
3 No3 LIMATO
Trainer:
Henry Candy – Jockey: Adam Kirby
The
veteran LIMATO can show a clean of heels to these Group 3 rivals and endorse
his connections’ decision to carry on racing with him at the age of eight. He
gamely landed this contest 12 months ago and showed when second to Group 1
winner Mustashry in the Challenge Stakes that he’s no back number.
Race
6 No1 PURE BEAUTY
Trainer:
Saeed Bin Suroor – Jockey: Frankie Dettori
PURE
BEAUTY
looked the part when scoring on her debut here. She’s going to prove
hard to beat with Dettori in the irons, moving up in distance from seven
furlongs to a mile. The daughter of Shamardal was quite easy to back but in
beating Lawahed two lengths showed that she’s decent and one to follow.
Race
8 No2 WALKONBY (Nap)
Trainer:
Mick Channon – Jockey: Ryan Moore
It’s
rare for Moore to team up with Channon and the connection is worth backing to
take out this fillies’ handicap with WALKONBY, who accounted for King George V
Handicap runner-up Kipps on her reappearance at Haydock. Although raised 6lb
she is going to enjoy the longer trip today. She’s been in great form since
that success, and remains a filly to follow.

Newcastle

Race
4 No8 MUBAAKER
Trainer:
Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Dane O’Neill
Although
having it to do on the book with top weight Brando, MUBAAKER is the sort of
upwardly mobile sprinter that needs following to run up a sequence for Stoute
and owner Sheikh Hamdan. The four-year-old produced a smart turn of foot to
score doing handstands on his seasonal return over course and distance, and the
decision to skip a race on grass the other day can be proved correct as he
steps into a Group 3.
Race
6 No1 ALOE VERA
Trainer:
Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Harry Bentley
The
home-bred ALOE VERA already has black type in her locker after taking out a
Listed race at Goodwood 13 months ago. It meant she remained unbeaten, but
niggling problems construed that she wasn’t seen again that season. She’s had
plenty of time to recover, however, and with the ground getting quicker all the
time on turf her trainer has sensibly opted to switch her to the all-weather.
If close to her best she can make it three from three in this Group 3.
Race
7 No16 AUSTRALIS (Nap)
Trainer:
Roger Varian – Jockey: David Egan
Varian
does well with slow maturing stayers and AUSTRALIS is a case in point. Since
opening his account on Polytrack last September he’s gained in confidence and
could hardly have been more impressive when easing home on his return on this
surface at Wolverhampton. As you might expect of a son of Australia he’s looked
better the further he’s travelled, and this move to two miles is just what he
wants.

Race
1 No4 IDENTIFIED
Trainer:
Archie Watson – Jockey: Kieren Shoemark
Several
of Watson’s horses are looking to need their first run, as seems the case with
IDENTIFIED when he disappointed on debut here earlier in the month. The
Showcasing colt went off 8-15 but blew it at the start. His jockey had to
accept the situation but with the benefit of that outing he can now show what
he’s made of.
Race
2 No1 WINE FLIGHT (Nap)
Trainer:
Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
The
assessor took a view about WINE FLIGHT’s Leicester success and so the ploy to
go for a novice with a penalty looks a wise one. The Gregorian filly finds
herself in a weak contest and should have little difficulty following-up. Her
stablemate Vitare didn’t let the form down earlier in the week, while Bass’s
7lb claimer more than eliminates the effect of the penalty.
Race
6 No3 BERKSHIRE PHILLY
Trainer:
Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Nobody
likes getting raised in the ratings after a defeat, and that’s what happened
when BERKSHIRE PHILLY was beaten a neck on her comeback over course and
distance. However that 3lb extra is not insurmountable, and with the champion
jockey on her back she has a great chance of opening her account.

Redcar

Race
1 No4 NORTONTHORPE BOY (Nap)
Trainer:
Tim Easterby – Jockey: Duran Fentiman
First-time
cheek pieces can help NORTONTHORPE BOY put one on the board for a stable that
had a winner at Royal Ascot and is running into a bit of form. He’s shown the
ability to handle the all-weather and grass and can better his good effort to
chase home Isle Of Lismore here a fortnight ago.
Race
2 No11 IMPERIAL GLORIANA
Trainer:
David O’Meara – Jockey: Shane Gray
IMPERIAL
GLORIANA
can outpoint her foes in this novice stakes and provide a welcome
winner for owner Sir Robert Ogden. The daughter of Kingman peppered the board
with near-misses last year but with a mark of 80 appears a class apart to give
her an immediate confidence boost and also prove she’s trained on.
Race
6 No5 HESLEWOOD (Each Way)
Trainer:
James Bethell – Jockey: Gianluca Santa
HESSLEWOOD
deserves to get his head in front after getting touched-off at Beverley. He’s
not quite lived up to the promise of a debut success at York two years ago, but
his trainer does well with this type of handicapper. He’s slightly back on the
distance ladder, which should also assist his cause.
