JLT Novices’ Chase 2019 Preview

FORMER Triumph Hurdle winner DEFI DU SEUIL sets the standard for nine opponents to aim at in a fascinating opener.

The JP McManus-owned gelding made a stuttering start to his Chase career at this course last November but has left that form well behind in three subsequent outings.

And at Sandown last month his finishing speed up the final Hill enabled him to gain a threequarters of a length triumph over the equally promising LOSTINTRANSLATION.

The pair meet on identical terms but of the two I have a git feeling that Lostintranslation could turn the tables.

Colin Tizzard’s view that the seven-year-old could be destined for top honours on the road ahead is worth taking stock of, granted that Robbie Power’s mount is a more died-in-the-wool type of old fashioned chaser, who can only improve with racing.

CAPELAND was a late addition to this on the back of a season is sheer consistency and appeals as a roughie that could utilise his experience in handicaps to good effect and get into the money.

REAL STEEL rates the pick of the Irish contenders and could contest the early pace in similar manner to his all the way triumph at Thurles, a run that puts Willie Mullins’ charge firmly in the mix.

KILDISART really takes the eye courtesy of his proven form at this course and assured jumping, combined with a light campaign. He’s a fresh horse and is the one I expect to give LOSTINTRANSLATION most to think about.

Neil Morrice’s Predicted Finish

1st – LOSTINTRANSLATION (4) (Nap)
2nd – Kildisart (3)
3rd – Capeland (1)
4th – Defi Du Seuil (2)
5th – Real Steel (6)
