Top Bet

Race 2: DANCER(2)

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

There are some decent form runners in this competitive contest and an exciting finish is anticipated. As expected, DANCER made his debut experience count when he produced a cracking second outing behind a highly regarded sort. The speedy colt pushed the odds-on favourite hard before succumbing close to home over the six furlongs. The 3rd placed finisher Attenborough won his subsequent start to boost that formline and this son of Mambo In Seattle could relish the cut-back to five furlongs. He clearly has lots of room for improvement and should go really close with Fayd’Herbe in the saddle.

Race 3: BAQUEIRA(3)

Jockey: Bernard’FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The extremely well-related BAQUEIRA has shown decent form in all her starts since her poor debut but she has been costly to follow. Her conditioner is probably still working out her optimum distance and the full-sister to Cold As Ice reverts to sprinting after she failed to quicken over a mile, three weeks ago. She clearly has ability and perhaps this stiff six furlongs could be to her liking.

Race 7: DARING DAVE(1)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The classy DARING DAVE has ruined many chances by developing the nasty tendency to jump slowly but he drops heavily in class today. His recent form is dismal but many of those efforts have been in feature company and he finished well, despite the circumstances. The son of Dynasty has an excellent c & d record and though he will likely be slow into stride today, he can still pull this off at this level. The five-year-old bay gelding is best in on official ratings and interestingly, his last victory came with Fourie in the saddle and the pair jumped on terms, that night.

Race 8: VARIANCE(1)

Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

The in-form VARIANCE handled the mile well when she went close at Durbanville, two weeks ago. She should prefer this longer run-in, particularly from her awkward draw and the daughter of Var has strong claims of going one better. There are a few lightly raced sorts who should make decent improvement and could trouble the top selection.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: CAPTAIN’S FLAME(5)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Willem A NEL

An extremely competitive fillies and mares handicap, featuring some useful three-year-olds with big masses but they are still expected to be competitive. The well-bred CAPTAIN’S FLAME is above-average and she would have strengthened during her ten-week break. She landed an outside gamble with a fluent debut victory over this c & d and then finished well when supported to favourite on her handicap debut second time out. She was close-up in 4th behind ALIYSA’S PRIZE (0.5kg worse off) that day and has lots of scope for improvement. The daughter of Captain Al should be a serious contender in this field.
