EXETER
Race 1: No1 – ASK A HONEY BEE (Nap)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan
Multiple bumper winner ASK A HONEY BEE was put in his place in the Festival Bumper at Cheltenham but made no mistake on his jumps debut when narrowly landing the odds from Ashtown Lad at Wetherby. With that form franked by the runner-up’s success on Saturday, the selection is strongly fancied to defy a penalty.
Race 3: No10 – THOMAS KERSHAW (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Brian Hughes
Dal Horrisgle is a fascinating recruit bringing smart Flat form to the table, but preference is for THOMAS KERSHAW who is better than his Hereford bumper run indicates. The five-year-old stopped quickly in ground that had been softened by persistent rain, but this more galloping track and better terrain can see him in a different light.
Race 4: No2 – GLEN FORSA
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Brian Hughes
GLEN FORSA makes a first appearance for almost a year in the featured Haldon Gold Cup but shouldn’t lack for want of fitness, having done plenty of work. The eight-year-old made a spectacular start to his chasing career with three straight successes before departing at an early stage of the Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham. He then disappointed at Aintree, but wasn’t beaten far on his only start last season at Newbury. The race lacks a proven top-class two miler and he can start to make up for the time lost while on the sidelines.
REDCAR
Race 4: No1 – BILL PEYTO (Nap)
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Jamie Spencer
BILL PEYTO ran with promise when easy to back on debut at Newmarket, chasing home Existent in heavy ground. The son of Acclamation is bred to enjoy the easy underfoot conditions that also prevail here, and can outpoint Le Cheval Rapide.
Race 8: No3 – CORNERSTONE LAD
Trainer: Micky Hammond – Jockey: Billy Garrity
Last season’s shock ‘ Fighting Fifth’ Hurdle winner CORNERSTONE LAD shaped well even though beaten a long way into fourth on a recent run here. That’s blown away some of the cobwebs and the gelding can make a mark in this before reverting to jumping.
NEWCASTLE
Race 8: No6 – ROUNDEL (Nap)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: William Buick
ROUNDEL showed improved form on his last couple of starts in Ireland to make him an interesting proposition in this first outing for O’Meara. The Dawn Approach gelding is equipped with a first time visor with the booking of Buick also taking the eye.
Race 9: No4 – BLUE DAWN
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: William Buick
BLUE DAWN stands out as an unexposed potential improver in the nightcap. The Oasis Dream filly has placed on all three career starts and with her liking for the all-weather can maker her mark on handicap debut.
